O Corredor verde fluvial do Leça: uma oportunidade para a mobilidade no concelho de Matosinhos

O rio Leça tem uma bacia hidrográfica de 307.600 hectares sendo uma das linhas de água mais importantes da Área Metropolitana do Porto (AMP). Atravessa os concelhos de Santo Tirso, Valongo, Maia e Matosinhos, tendo o seu vale ocupação milenar, pelo que é alvo de contínua transformação, refletindo-se na paisagem do vale do Leça, a cada momento, a expressão no território da sociedade. A mobilidade é um dos fatores que mais contribui para a qualidade de vida na cidade. A mobilidade sustentável é hoje entendida como crucial para a sustentação das dinâmicas sociais e económicas da vida urbana. É nesta perspetiva que se considera ser necessário criar uma estrutura intermodal que atenda às necessidades de uso diário da população, sem descurar o recreio e o turismo e que atenda à compatibilização das características multifuncionais das deslocações e ao carácter da paisagem fluvial antrópica do rio Leça. Nestes termos, considera-se ser necessário definir um percurso destinado a ciclistas e peões ao longo do vale do rio Leça no concelho de Matosinhos, no entendimento de que este percurso contribuirá para a mobilidade sustentável no município, e que integrará também a preservação das áreas com elevado valor ecológico, cultural e paisagístico. Pretende-se que o percurso ao longo do Leça contribua para o reforço da identidade deste curso de água. Neste sentido propõe-se a definição do Corredor Verde Fluvial do Leça que incluirá o percurso pedonal, ciclovia, margens do rio leça e interligações com a paisagem do vale e estruturas de mobilidade, numa proposta que visa consolidar as estratégias de mobilidade e de implementação de corredores verdes do concelho, promovendo-se a mobilidade sustentável e a Estrutura Ecológica Municipal. O programa a desenvolver para o Corredor Verde Fluvial do Leça atenderá à requalificação das margens do rio Leça atendendo à recuperação das funções ecológicas e à valorização do património histórico, cultural e natural presente na paisagem.

The Leça river has a watershed of 307.600 hectares and is one of the most important watercourses of the Metropolitan Area of Porto (AMP - Área Metropolitana do Porto). The river flows across the municipalities of Santo Tirso, Valongo, Maia and Matosinhos having its valley a millenary occupation for which it is constantly being transformed, reflecting the valley’s landscape within the society’s territory in every moment. The mobility is one of the factors that most contributes for a quality of life in the city. Sustainable mobility is nowadays understood as being crucial for sustaining the social dynamics and economies of the urban life. Thus, it is important to consider the need of creating an intermodal structure that supports the daily needs of the population, without compromising the tourism and recreation, and that integrates the multifunctional aspects of the population movements and the anthropical fluvial landscape character of the Leça river. Accordingly, it is considered necessary to define a route for cyclists and pedestrians along the Leça river valley within the municipality of Matosinhos, considering that this route will contribute to a sustainable mobility in the municipality and that will also integrate the preservation of the areas with a high ecological, cultural and landscape value. It is intended that the route along Leça river contributes to the enhancement of the identity of this watercourse. Hence, the definition of the Leça Fluvial Green Corridor is materialized with the pedestrian route, bicyle path, river banks and the interconnections with the valley’s landscape and mobility structures in a proposal that seeks to reinforce the mobility strategies and the green corridors implementation within the municipality promoting a sustainable movability and the municipal’s ecological structure. The development of the Leça Fluvial Green Corridor program will meet the needs of requalification of the Leça river banks throughout the reestablishment of the ecological functions and the valorization of the historical, cultural and natural heritage present in the landscape.
