The influence of host residues on the occurrence of some fungal diseases of red clover and alfalfa
W. Truszkowska | B. Legieć
Observations have been made on two hosts and their parasites: (1) Trifolium paratense L. with Kabatilla caulivora and Phoma trifolii and (2) Medicago sativa L. with Ascochyta imperfecta and Verticillium albo-atrum. It has been found that K. caulivora is not specially dangerous for red clover as a soilborne pathogen but, on the contrary, P. trifolii can persist in host residues within the soil. Similar to the latter fungus, A. imperfecta develop well in alfalfa remains in the soil and is therefore a very important danger for this host whilst V.albo-atrum (from DM), although not so dynamic, can non-the-less become a dangerous soil-borne pathogen were alfalfa residues are present.
