El tiburón ballena (Rhincodon typus) se agrega de manera temporal en Bahía de los Ángeles (BLA) entre junio y noviembre, lo que ha permitido el desarrollo del ecoturismo dirigido a la especie, generando un ingreso importante a la economía local. Debido a que existe poca información sobre los parámetros demográficos de esta especie en Bahía de los Ángeles, es fundamental evaluar la agregación para tomar decisiones efectivas sobre la regulación de su ecoturismo, dado que esto puede afectar el comportamiento de los animales y su tasa de retorno a la zona. Los datos de este trabajo fueron tomados por el grupo comunitario PEJESAPO, entre el 2008 al 2019. Se analizaron las fotografías de 12 temporadas de avistamientos y el patrón de coloración único permitió la distinción entre individuos, que fue verificada usando el software I3S. Para estimar la abundancia y los parámetros demográficos se utilizó el software MARK bajo la parametrización POPAN, en donde se construyeron dos tipos de modelos, uno donde se incluye los animales transitorios y residentes y otro donde sólo se utilizaron los animales residentes. De 3,241 encuentros con tiburones ballena en 357 días de muestreo a lo largo de las 12 temporadas, se foto-identificaron 706 individuos, de los cuales el 63% fueron transitorios (vistos una sola vez), el 37% fueron re-avistados (más de una temporada) y solo 2 tiburones fueron vistos durante 9 años. De estos, el 68% fueron machos, 26% fueron hembras y 6% no fue posible determinar el sexo, por lo que, la proporción de sexos fue de 2.6 machos por cada hembra. La longitud tuvo un rango tallas entre los 2.7m y 10m, con una media de 5.7m ± 1.0m, es decir que la agregación se compone principalmente de organismos juveniles. Las abundancias y los parámetros demográficos se estimaron a partir de la selección del mejor modelo (Criterio de Información de Akaike). La probabilidad de supervivencia (φ) y la probabilidad de captura (p) fueron del 59%, al eliminar los animales transitorios ambas probabilidades aumentaron al 97% y 68% respectivamente. La probabilidad de entrar (pent) a la agregación aumenta, pero en menor medida de 30% a un 37%. El tamaño de la súper-población se estimó en 1,163.66 ± 34.19 individuos (IC 95% =1,098.54 -1,232.63) y el tamaño de la súper-población de residentes se estimó en 278.54 ± 5.83 individuos (IC 95%= 267.35 -290.21). Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are regularly seen in Bahía De Los Ángeles (BLA) between June to November. Due to there is little information on the demographic parameters of this species in BLA it, is essential to evaluate the aggregation to make effective decisions on the regulation of ecotourism since this can affect the behavior of the animal and the rate of return to the area. The data of this work was taken by the PEJESAPO community group, between 2008 and 2019. The photographs of 12 sighting seasons were analyzed, and the unique coloration pattern allowed the distinction between individuals and verified in time using the I3S software. Mark-recapture abundance estimates and demographic parameters were produce using the MARK software under the POPAN parameterization; two types of models were constructed; one where transient and resident animals were included and the other where only resident animals were used. Of 3,241 encounters with R. typus observed in 357 days of sampling, 706 individuals were photo-identified, of which 63% were transitory (only capture once), 37% were re-sighted (more than one season), and only to 2 sharks were re-sighted during 9 yr. From the total whale sharks (n=706), 68% were males, 26% were females, and 6% could not be classified, therefore, the sex ratio was 2.6 males: 1 female. Length ranged from 2.7 to 10 m of total length, with an average of 5.6 m ± 1.0m. Thus the aggregation is mainly composed of juvenile organisms. The abundances and demographic parameters were estimated from the selection of the best model (Akaike's criterion). The survival probability (φ) and the capture probability (p) were 59% when eliminating the transient animals, both probabilities increased to 97% and 68%, respectively.
