Application of Traditional Turkish Motifs on Wooden Doors with CNC Machines: The Example of Bafra Congress Center

Traditional Turkish motifs are seen in many works in the Anatolian Seljuk period, the Principalities period and the Ottoman period (early-classical-late) after the Turks came to Anatolia. These motifs; It has been applied to materials such as stone, marble, tile and wood. In this study; It was aimed to create an original work by applying our traditional motifs with a CNC machine to all the wooden doors of the congress and cultural center located in Bafra, Samsun. Some motifs of the Mehmet Pasha Mosque pulpit built in the early Ottoman period, some motifs of the Macahel Mosque pulpit in the late Ottoman period and a few Islamic motifs were used. In the study, some traditional Turkish motifs were used, drawing and modeling with the Alphacam program, and applications were made on wooden doors without disturbing the harmony of the historical building. These are the main arched crown wooden door, interior wooden arched doors and all door frames. Scots pine and sapele timber were used in all construction and decoration processes. The preservation of traditional Turkish motifs by remaining true to the appearance of the carving technique, relief technique, and grooved carving technique and its applicability in other studies with different application areas are emphasized. CNC machining of Scots pine and sapele wood species used in embossed decorations and construction has given good results in adhesion and surface treatments.
