Fishmeal and fish oil processing on board freezer trawler

This project focuses on fishmeal and fish oil production on board HB-Grandi’s new freezer trawler. The trawler will be equipped with on board fishmeal and oil production but decisions regarding the type of machinery have not yet been made. The objective of this work is to submit three different designs and to estimate the allowable investment cost for each of them over given payback periods. The first design submitted is a simple processing unit called Low degree design, which only produces fishmeal. The second is a High degree design, which produces fishmeal and oil and uses evaporators for 100% material efficiency. The third is a combination of previous versions called Hybrid design, which produces both fishmeal and oil but is without evaporators. The chemical composition was analyzed for the raw materials and for different production streams in the plants. On that basis, the revenue could be determined along with the energy-, variable- and fixed cost. Net present value analyses with 10% annual discount rate were used to determine the allowable investment cost. The higher the allowable investment cost, the more flexibility there is to invest. The results indicate that if the investment is supposed to pay back in 5 years, the cost may not exceed approximately 1.05 million USD for the Low degree design, 2.04USD for the High degree design and 1.84 million USD for the Hybrid design. If the company intends to pay back the investment in 10 years, the investment cost may not exceed 1.41 million USD (Low degree) 2.73 million USD (High Degree) and 2.47 million USD (Hybrid).

Þetta verkefni fjallar um fiskimjöls og lýsisvinnslu um borð í nýjum frystitogara HB Granda. Til stendur að smíða í togarann búnað til vinnslu á fiskimjöli og lýsi en ákvörðun hefur ekki verið tekin um hverskonar búnað skuli velja eða uppsetningu vinnslunnar. Markmið þessa verkefnis er að leggja fram þrjár mismunandi tillögur að vinnslu og finna leyfilegan stofnkostnað á hverri vinnslueiningu fyrir sig miðað við ákveðinn uppgreiðslutíma á fjárfestingunni. Fyrsta hönnunin sem lögð er fram er einföld vinnslueining (Low degree), en hún vinnur einungis mjöl. Önnur er fullvinnsla (High degree), sem vinnur bæði lýsi og mjöl og notast við uppgufara og 100% nýtingu hráefnis. Sú þriðja er sambland af fyrri útgáfum (Hybrid), en hún vinnur lýsi og mjöl og er án uppgufara. Greina þurfti efnainnihald hráefnisins frá togaranum sem og efnainnihald ákveðinna hráefnisstrauma í hefðbundinni fiskimjölsvinnslu. Á þeim grunni er hægt að meta tekjur frá vinnslunum þremur. Einnig þurfti að meta orkukostnað, breytilegan rekstrarkostnað og fastan kostnað fyrir hverja vinnslu. Þessir fjármagnsstraumar voru síðan núvirtir miðað við 10% forvexti á ári. Þannig er hægt að finna leyfilegan stofnkostnað fyrir hverja vinnslueiningu miðað við ákveðinn uppgreiðslutíma. Því hærri sem leyfilegur stofnkostnaður er, því meira svigrúm er til að fjárfesta. Í ljós kom að leyfirlegur stofnkostnaður, miðað við 5 ára uppgreiðslutíma nam um það bil 1.05 milljón USD fyrir (Low degree), 2.04 milljón USD fyrir (High degree) og 1.84 milljón USD (Hybrid). Ef miðað er við að greiða fjárfestinguna upp á 10 árum nam leyfilegur stofnkostnaður 1.41 milljón USD fyrir (Low degree), 2.73 milljón USD fyrir (High degree) og 2.47 milljón USD (Hybrid).
