Accidentes por animales ponzoñosos registrados en el hospital de Tingo María en el periodo 2018-2021

El objetivo del estudio fue describir las características epidemiológicas de los principales accidentes producidos por animales ponzoñosos registrados en el Hospital de Tingo María durante el periodo 2018-2021. Para ello se desarrolló un estudio observacional descriptivo, que empleó la información compilada en la base de datos del Área de Estrategia de Zoonosis del Hospital de Tingo María para el periodo del presente estudio. Se recolectó información correspondiente a las variables edad, género, grupo etario y procedencia del paciente, distribución geográfica y estacional del accidente, género y especie del animal agresor, y la ubicación anatómica de la lesión producida por el accidente. Con la información recopilada se creó una base de datos en Excel la cual fue resumida mediante estadística descriptiva. Se observo que durante los años 2018-2021 se registraron un total de 196 accidentes por animales ponzoñosos, en el 2019 se registró el mayor número con 69 casos. Los meses en el que se presentaron más casos de accidentes por animales ponzoñosos fueron abril y diciembre, asociado al aumento de la temperatura y lluvias en estos meses. Las provincias de Leoncio Prado (70.9%) y Huamalíes (15.8%) registraron la mayor cantidad de casos. El sexo masculino fue el más afectado (54.1%), mientras que el grupo etario más afectado fue el de 30 a 59 años. Se observó que el ofidismo es el principal accidente (72.4%), seguido del aracneismo (21.4%). Bothrops atrox (45.9%) fue la especie más identificada; sin embargo, no se diferenció el género y especie del animal agresor en el 45.4% de casos. Los miembros inferiores (42.3%) son las principales regiones del cuerpo afectadas por los accidentes con animales ponzoñosos. Debido al elevado porcentaje de accidentes ocasionados por animales ponzoñosos sería importante implementar y/o fortalecer las medidas de prevención.

The objective of the study was to describe the epidemiological characteristics of the main accidents caused by venomous animals registered at the Tingo María Hospital during the 2018-2021 period. For this, a descriptive observational study was developed, which used the information collected in the database of the Strategic Area of Zoonoses of the Tingo María Hospital for the period of this study. Information corresponding to the variables age, gender, age group and origin of the patient, geographic and seasonal distribution of the accident, gender and species of the offending animal, and anatomical location of the injury caused by the accident was collected. The months in which more cases of accidents caused by venomous animals were reported were April and December, associated with the increase in temperature and rainfall in these months. The provinces of Leoncio Prado (70.9%) and Huamalíes (15.8%) registered the highest number of cases. The male sex was the most affected (54.1%), while the most affected age group was 30 to 59 years. It was observed that snakebite is the main accident (72.4%), followed by arachneism (21.4%). Bothrops atrox (45.9%) was the most identified species; However, the gender and species of the offending animal were not differentiated in 45.4% of the cases. The lower limbs (42.3%) are the main regions of the body affected by accidents with venomous animals. Due to the high percentage of accidents caused by venomous animals, it would be important to implement and/or strengthen prevention measures.
