ABSTRACT.Low germination rate of seeds is one of the main obstacles in the grapevine breeding programs. Problems related to reduced germination rates are attributed to dormancy, however, it is assumed that seed integrity may also be contributing to these unsatisfactory results. The objective of this study was to evaluate the integrity of Tannat grapevine seeds, collected at different stages of grape maturation, determined by a water submersion test, aiming to validate the potential of this technique to classify seeds in terms of integrity. Fruits from an experimental vineyard owned by INIA (Las Brujas), were harvested at 100, 107, 114 and 121 days after anthesis (DAA) and their seeds were measured for their weight. After this process, seeds were submitted to the water immersion test and classified for integrity. A completely randomized experimental design was used, consisting of four treatments (maturation stages), and four replications, consisting of 25 seeds each. The highest weight of a thousand seeds and percentage of full seeds were obtained at 121 DAA. The water submersion test was efficient for the classification of seeds in terms of integrity. These results implicate that the test allows to identify with accuracy the integrity and the maturation stage of Tannat grapevine seeds and predict the germination rate..-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.--.RESUMO.O baixo índice de germinação das sementes constitui-se um dos principais gargalos nos programas de melhoramento genético da videira. A reduzida taxa germinativaé atribuída à dormência, entretanto, supõe-se que a integridade da semente também possa estar contribuindo para estes resultados insatisfatórios. Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar a integridade de sementes de videira Tannat, colhidas em diferentes estádios de maturação, pelo teste de submersão em água, visando validar a potencialidade dessa técnica para classificar as sementes quanto à integridade. Frutos de um vinhedo experimental pertencente ao INIA (Las Brujas) foram colhidos aos 100, 107, 114 e 121 dias após a antese (DAA) e, posteriormente, tiveram suas sementes aferidas quanto ao peso. Em seguida, as sementes foram submetidas ao teste de imersão em água e classificadas quanto à integridade. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, sendo quatro tratamentos (estádios de maturação) e quatro repetições de 25 sementes cada. O maior peso de mil sementes e porcentagem de sementes cheias foi registrada aos 121 DAA. O teste de submersão em água foi eficiente para a classificação quanto à integridade, em todos os estádios. Concluiu-se que o teste permite identificar com acurácia a integridade das sementes de videira Tannat e predizer a taxa germinativa.
