MOVIR presented the main achievements in the field of theoretical and applied researches in the 50-year period of formation and development of the institute. The contribution of scientific staff in the maintenance, preservation and study of the collection of the world's plant genetic resources of N.I. Vavilov has been shown.

November 25, 2012 the international scientific community of geneticists and plant breeders will be celebrating the 125thanniversary of the birth of botanist and genetics, agronomist, geographer and founder of the national school of biology and breeding, Academician Nikolai Ivanovich Vavilov. A III-rd International Scientific-Practical Conference «Modern trends in plant breeding and seed production of vegetable crops. Traditions and Prospects» took place in VNIISSOK in August 2012, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the scientist.

The significance of world germplasm collection of vegetable crops and their wild relatives developed by Vavilov N.I. for scientific and breeding purposes are undertaken in the article.

Based on the results of molecular-genetic analysis of pepper accessions of VNIISSOK's breeding, the parental lines were selected. The diallel crossing among them has been conducted. The F1 hybrids were developed. The hybrids vigor (heterosis) for main agronomic traits was estimated. The best pepper hybrids were selected. The potential correlation between genetic divergence determined by molecular markers and heterosis effect is speculated.

The conveyor of production of canning green pea varieties of VNIISSOK breeding is represented.

After many years of breeding work in the laboratory of plant breeding and seed production of floral crops of VNIISSOK five varieties of bearded iris (Hybrid) have been developed: St. George, Breeze, Zhirafik, Maestro, Elegy, with the original color of flowers that are resistant to adverse weather conditions (rain, hail, etc. etc.), as well as to diseases and pests, heat and winter resistance.

The black mold of several varieties of onion was found in our zone of cultivation. The causative agent was identified as Aspergillus niger Tieghem 1867. The degree of damage by this disease grades and depends on temperature optimal for growth and sporulation of fungi.

May 22-23, 2012 in the National University of bio resources and nature study of Ukraine, Kiev, there was the International Scientific and Practical Conference «Genetic basis of plant breeding, seed production and biotechnology: science, education, and practice», dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding scientist , breeder, honored worker of high education, agricultural PhD, Professor Mihail Alekseevich Zelensky.

September 5-7, 2012 in the arcade of Moscow there was the second exhibition devoted to floriculture Russia «Expo Flora Russia».

The International Conference of Young Scientists «Advances in Botany and Ecology» was held in September 19-23, 2012,Uzhgorod, Ukraine. The meeting was devoted to achievements of botany, physiology, mycology, bryology and lichenology, plant physiology and biochemistry, systematic of vascular plants, plant ecology and phytosociology.
