WHEATGRASS JUICE AND ITS NUTRITIONAL VALUE AS AFFECTED BY SPROUTING CONDITION

Wheatgrass juice is the young grass of the common wheat plant (Triticum aestivum) freshly juiced for human consumption. The objective of the investigation performed was to assess the nutritional value of wheatgrass juice under laboratory and open field conditions at two different cuts. Protein, chlorophyll contents, minerals content (Ca, Fe, Mg, Zn and Se) and amino acids content as well as phytochemical constituents were determined. Grown wheatgrass at laboratory caused an increase of the protein content of its juice over open field condition. High chlorophyll content was observed under open field especially at second cut. Most of minerals content underwent to increase under open field except Mg content. Aspartic acid was recorded the highest amino acid in both laboratory and open field. Total essential amino acids were increased under open field condition at both first and second cut followed by first cut at laboratory. No big changes of natural phytochemicals constituents can shown between laboratory and open field condition while it was more pronounced compare with wheat seeds. The study suggested that sprouting wheat seeds at laboratory and open field improve the nutritional value of grass juice with preferably to laboratory condition especially at first cut and for saving agricultural land.

A green house experiment was carried out in two successive seasons on date Palm plantlets (Phoenix dactylifera L. cv. Bartomouda) from 2012 to 2013, to evaluated the effectiveness of different sources of nitrogen fertilizer at four treatments as (T2) 5 g/l ammonium sulfate 20 % (1 g nitrogen), (T3) 3 g/l potassium nitrate 33% (1 g nitrogen) and (T4) 2 g/l urea (46%) with the irrigation water one time/ week.The design of the experiment was randomized complete with three replicates. The results revealed that, plant height cm, leaves numbers, root length cm and numbers, and fresh and dry weights of leaves and roots were increasing highly significantly with 3 g/l of potassium nitrate graduated by 2 g/l urea and 5 g/l ammonium sulfate respectively at both seasons. Chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids contents showed significant rising with 3 g/l potassium nitrate. Greatest significant contents of indole and proline were obtained under T3 for two seasons. Leaves nitrogen content N was increased by 2 g/l urea in the two seasons; on the other hand, root nitrogen content was increased with treatment 3 g/l potassium nitrate, sequenced by T2 and T4 treatments. Leaves and roots phosphorus P content significantly raising under 3g/l potassium nitrate and 5 g/l ammonium sulfate for two seasons. In the presence of 5 g/l ammonium sulfate and 3 g/l potassium nitrate leaves and root potassium content K were largest at two seasons respectively. This research shows that the nitrogen formula as potassium nitrate > ammonium sulfate > urea were recommended to highly increasing growth of date palm plantlets in the green house.

Steroid hormones (H) and tetracycline antibiotics (T) are considered two important classes of veterinary therapeutic agents administrated to livestock for different purposes that have been detected for many environmental matrices in wide concentrations range. The effect of progesterone (Pro), androstenedione (4-AD), androstadienedione (1,4-AD) and tetracycline antibiotics namely oxytetracycline (OTC), chlortetracycline (CTC) and tetracycline (TC) on arugula plants (Eruca sativa) growth and biochemical composition was investigated. Compost and potassium permanganate were applied to minimizing the negative effect of veterinary therapeutic agentson plant. A pot experiment was conducted at the greenhouse of Agricultural Research Center (ARC) at Giza Governorate, Egypt. Soil fortified with 2 mg kg-1 of H and Ttarget compounds individually and combined was used to study their effect on chlorophyll, proline, catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) activities as antioxidant enzyme and plant growth. Under this experiment conditions; the obtained results showed that veterinary therapeutic agents caused increased the content of proline, however chlorophyll content was increased as a result of H application and decreased with T application. Both CAT and POD activities were increased, especially with the combined mixture application. Potassium permanganate or compost can be used for remediation procedures in veterinary therapeutic agentscontaminated soils.
