Investigation of values of some clinically important blood parameters in Van cats
2018
Yur, Fatmagul | Camas, Hayati
In this study, normal values of important blood parameters in the clinical direction of blood samples of Van cats living in Van and around Van were investigated. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of glucose, total cholesterol, total lipid, total protein, total bilirubine, urea, creatinine quantities, α-Amylase, GOT, GPT, γGT, CK, ALP, LDH, α-HBDH, Che, SDH enzyme activities, GOT/GPT, γGT/GOT, CK/GOT, LDH/GOT, HBDH/LDH ratios and serum protein fractions in 10 Van cats; albumin, α-1globulin, α-2 globulin, β-globulin, γ-globulin and albumin / globulin ratio were determined. In order for Van cats that are an important cultural asset and protected rather not to become extinct but to provide them with healthy conditions for living and breeding, we believe that the values we identify will contribute to practice associated with Van cats and generate collective reference values in scientific studies and will help veterinary clinicians.

2017
Terzi, Osman Safa | Sevim, Kadir | Pirpanahi, Erfaneh | Ambarcioglu, Pinar | Ceylan, Ebubekir | Bas, Bulent
Interpretation of laboratory data is very important and based on comparison with reference intervals in routine practice. Leukocyte term includes all white blood cells and their precursors. These cells use blood circulation for going to the original tissues from their original locations. Total leukocyte count can be changed by various physiologic and pharmacologic reasons. In healthy cats, lymphocytes are the second most frequent leukocyte in the blood. Compared to middle-aged or old cats, young animals have higher absolute lymphocyte counts. The medical records of cats referred to the Ankara University Small Animal Hospitalfor general examination between April 2016 and August 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Complete bloodcount (CBC) data includes red blood cell (RBC) count, haemoglobin, haematocrit (HCT), mean cell volume(MCV), mean cell haemoglobin (MCH), mean cell haemoglobin concentration (MCHC), red blood celldistribution width, platelet count, white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils.Of 5292 cats, 191 cats at the age between 0 and 1 and with CBC data were included in the study. CBCswere obtained from all 191 cats at the first visit. The relationship of hematological data to the reference range issummarized in Table 2. It was observed that 25.7% of the cats had leucocyte counts below the reference intervaland 3% had above the reference interval. Considering neutrophil counts, it is seen that 23.3% were lower and4.5% were higher. According to the results of 191 hemogram tests, lymphocyte counts of 39 cats (19.3%) andmonocyte counts of 9 cats (4,5%) were found to be low. This is a novel study that includes the results of detailed examination of breed and age distributionof complete blood count results at the first clinical visits of cats. According to our retrospective screening results,it is seen that the relation of monocyte numbers with age is statistically significant. (p = 0.018) The biggestdifference between the two age groups in the study is the pre- and post-adolescence periods. It is important toprecisely know the results of CBC test in the first visit to the clinic and to take the necessary precautions toeliminate the abnormal results before vaccination.

2018
Bastan, Idil | Bas, Bulent
The aim of this study was to draw attention to the clinical course of the disease and some laboratory findings in cats diagnosed with Toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasma gondii seropositive 14 cats were used in this study. A serological evaluation was carried out to determine the presence of Toxoplasma gondii specific IgG using commercial diagnostic kits, by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. Hematological and clinical changes of those cats were recorded.Of 14 cats, neural symptoms such as behavioral changes, seizures, ataxia and nystagmus were detected in 11 cats, uveitis in 5 cats and diarrhea in 4 cats. Serum urea, creatinine and bilirubin levels were normal in all cats. However, Anemia (decreased Hb, RBC, PCV) in 8 cats (57.1%), monocytosis in 6 cats (42.8%), neutrophilia in 5 cats (35.7%), hypoalbuminemia in 5 cats (35.7%) and increased AST and ALT levels in 3 cats (21.4%) were detected. It was concluded that clinical Toxoplasmosis in cats is characterized by neurological, ocular and gastrointestinal sings and hematological sings such as anemia, monocytosis, neutrophilia and hypoalbuminemia that clinically patient cats should also be evaluated in terms of Toxoplasmosis in cats.

2021
Gokdemi̇rel, Burcu | Bozkan, Zeynep
It was aimed to investigate whether chia seeds provide an advantage during ultrasonographic imaging in cats when added to food by means of its high water-holding capacity. Ten healthy cats were ultrasonographically examined following 12- hour fasting period and after feeding with 3 different food types at 1-week intervals. Thus, 4 study group were formed as follows; FST; fasting 12- hour period, WF; feeding with wet cat food following 12- hour fasting period DWF; feeding with ½ of same wet food diluted with the same volume drinking water, CWF; feeding with ½ of same wet food mixed with 36 ml swollen chia seeds obtained by holding 2 hours 3ml chia seeds in 33 ml drinking water. Cats were evaluated ultrasonographically immediately after feeding, and at the 30th minutes and 60th minutes.Especially in terms of thickness, gastric wall evaluation was easier after food intake. In the CWF, the stomach was fully imaged on the frame at all times. The gastrointestinal tract content moved faster when cats were fed DWF or CWF; In the examination immediately after feeding the contents were in duodenum and seen in the jejunum and ileum in the 30- and 60-minutes’ examinations. CWF and DWF revealed more heterogeneous images then WF and also CWF provided better visualization for the intestinal canal wall layer.Ultrasonographic examination after feeding with chia seed added formula can be used as a complementary method following the fasting examination.
