2022
Sogutlu, Inci | Gunbatar, Nizamettin | Mert, Handan | Cellat, Mustafa | Mert, Nihat
In this study, it was planned to examine the mineral levels in the milk of different dog breeds during the lactation period. Calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), potassium (K), sodium (Na), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn) and iron (Fe) concentrations were analyzed in dog milk. In this research 6 Labradors, 6 German Shepherds, 6 Pointers, 5 Turkish Tazis (sighthound), 5 Setters, 7 Malinois, and 5 Golden Retrievers (a total of 40 dogs) of 3 to 4 years of age were used as research materials, all of which were under same management and feeding conditions. All dogs were on diets appropriate for gestation and lactation periods. Adequate milk volume could be collected 23 weeks after parturition, and there were no known medical problems. Each day's samples were kept capped and refrigerated after being collected. The concentrations of calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, copper, zinc, manganese and iron, were analyzed by using Varian Brand 30/40 model AAS device. The Ca, K, Na, Zn, Mn and Fe levels of milk samples from different dog breeds had no significant difference. The highest Mg level was determined in Pointer breed milk samples, and the lowest was determined in Setter milk samples. The highest Cu levels among the inspected races were in Labrador milk samples, whereas the lowest levels were determined in Setter breeds. This data shows that most of the analyzed milk content of different breeds of dogs did not change significantly during the same lactation period, and any present difference could be taken into account when evaluating breeding studies.

This study was carried out on 124 dogs between February 2018 and November 2018 to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminths in stray dogs in Van. Collected stool samples, after macroscopic examination, were examined by native, flotation and sedimentation methods in terms of eggs and larvae. According to the results of the study, 43 (34.68%) of 124 dogs were detected as infected with various types of helminths. The most common species were respectively Toxascaris leonina (16.13%), Toxocara canis (12.90%), Ancylostoma caninum (5.64%), Taenia spp. (4.84%), Dipylidium caninum (3.22%), Uncinaria stenocephala (3.22%), Capillaria spp. (3.22%), Fasciola hepatica (2.70%) and Dicrocoelium dentriticum (1.35%) 35.14% of the female dogs were infected with parasites, while this rate was 34% for males. Statistically, infection status in males and females does not differ significantly by gender (Chi-Square: 0,17 p >0.05). When the distribution by age is examined, it is 0.5-2 years with the highest rate of 45.3%, 2-6 years with 27.7% and 5-9 years with 25%. According to age, infection status does not show a statistically significant difference (Chi-Square: 4.64, p> 0.05). As a result, it was concluded that the subsi substantial presence of zoonotic helminths in straydogs in the province of Van poses a threat to human health and protective measures should be taken againstit.

2018
Kahraman, Duygu | Ceylan, Ebubekir
Infection with Neospora caninum in a dog is described. The predominant clinical findings were proprioception deficit, involuntary and continuous contracture of the pelvic extremity muscles. N. caninum is structurally similar to Toxoplasma gondii, but it is immunologically distinct. Therefore, infections had been misdiagnosed as toxoplasmosis. The diagnosis was confirmed by an immunofluorescence antibody test. The parasite is sensitive to clindamycin and trimethoprim/sulphonamide, however the prognosis is poor especially if the muscle contractures have occurred.

The objective of this study was to assess the renal function in animals with renal failure after peritoneal dialysis. Animals with kidney failure presented to veterinary teaching hospital at Ankara University consisted of 4 dogs and one cat. Animals with kidney failure were treated with peritoneal dialysisapplication. Concentration of serum urea in all patients significantly decreased after the second attempt of peritonealdialysis but, not serum creatinine. When peritoneal dialysis procedures (4 to 10 times) completed, theconcentrations of serum urea and creatinine were significantly decreased in all animals. Complications identifiedduring PD were peritonitis, hypoalbuminemia, hypokalemia, dialysate retention or leakage from the catheter site, edema and pleural effusion/chylothorax.In the present study, it was concluded that peritoneal dialysis procedure was a life-saving, easily applicable, and cost effective clinical procedure for companion animals with renal failure.

Gulaydin, Ali | Akgul, Mustafa Barıs | Sindak, Nihat
In this case report, the clinical and radiographic results of the treatment of Salter Harris Type II fracture in the left humerus of a 10-month-old female and crossbred dog with parallel pin technique was evaluated. The dog with complaining of lameness was brought to Siirt University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Clinic of Surgery Department and local fracture findings were found in the distal 1/3 of the left humerus. On radiological examination, it was found that the distal physeal line of the left humerus was detached. Also, it was seen that the integrity of the bone cortex was disrupted through in a line that included the metaphysis at the medial angle. In the operation, following the reduction of the fracture fragments, 2 krischner pins with 2 mm in diameter parallel to each other were applied from the medial cortex of the humerus to the lateral side of the distal condule and fixation was achieved. After the operation, the limb was taken to a backed bandage. In the radiological examination of the case on post-op 3rd week, it was found that the formation of the collus began. On the post-op 21st day, the bandage was removed and physical therapy applications were started to apply. On the post-op 4th week, it was seen that the dog used the extremity functionally and it was discharged. As a result, it was concluded that parallel double pin applications can be used successfully in the treatment of Salter Harris Type II fractures that are formed in the distal of dog's humerus.

2017
Terzi, Osman Safa | Albasan, Hasan
Mitral valve disease and dilated cardiomyopathy are common acquired cardiac diseases in dogs. Standard echocardiography is commonly used on dogs to non-invasively evaluate myocardial function. The aim of this prospective study was to provide results about variabilities of peak systolic radial strain and strain rate at the level of the papillary muscles using two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography in a population of healthy and dogs with cardiologic disorders. Study Groups of A and B consisted of 3 dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy and 4 dogswith valve disease, respectively. Control Group (C) consisted of 7 healthy dogs. These dogs were presented forcardiac screening at the Veterinary Medical Hospital of Ankara University in Turkey and were analyzedretrospectively. It is revealed that for strain evaluation, Group A was significantly (P<0.05) different from Group C andGroup B. According to the literature, this is the first study from Turkey where speckle trackingechocardiography is used to assess the left ventricular function of Turkish Kangal dogs with naturally occurringdilated cardiomyopathy and mitral valve disease. Two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography revealeddecreased left ventricular myocardial systolic performance in dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy compared withstrain levels of healthy dogs and dogs with valve disease.
