To compare the sedative effects using intermittent intravenous bolus injection with tiletaminezolazepam (n = 5, TZ group), xylazine-ketamine (n = 5, XK group) and propofol (n = 5, PI group), we investigated the changes of hemodynamic (heart rate, arterial pressure), SpO₂, rectal temperature, respiratory rate and pain score during 60 minute sedation and 40 minute recovery period in beagle dogs. The value of rectal temperature was significantly higher in PI groups (p less than 0.05) during recovery period. The value of heart rate was significantly lower in XK group (p less than 0.05) during sedation. The changes of respiratory rate were similar tendency in all groups.

This experiments was designed to observe the effect of period and dose of ingestion of grapes on renal failure in dog. After the dogs had been mixed of general feed, raisins from U.S.A and fresh grapes from Chile selling in Korea. We observed the clinical sign, and analyzed the blood and urine using by biochemical test. The experiment was executed by the two following groups. The experiment group 1. derived renal failure by supplying the mixed general feed with fresh grapes and dry grapes 15 g per weight kg, 2 times a day (AM 09, PM 21), the experiment group 2. executed to derive renal failure by supplying the mixed general feed with fresh grapes and dry grapes 40 g per weight kg, 2 times a day.

Changes in the rabbit Leydig cell from birth to adulthood were studied in New Zealand white rabbits of 1, 7, 21, 35, 49, 70, 105, 147, 196, and 252 days (n = 8 rabbits per group) of age. The objectives of this study were to understand the fate of the fetal Leydig cells, to determine the changes in serum testosterone levels, and leutenizing hormone-stimulated testosterone production per testis in vitro, and to quantify adult Leydig cells by number and average volume with age. Testes of rabbits were fixed by whole body perfusion using a fixative containing 2.5% glutaraldehyde in cacodylate buffer, processed and embedded in Epon-araldite.

Porcine juvenile pustular psoriasiform dermatitis (PJPPD) is a disease of young pigs and characterized by nonpruritic round eruption of skin. The cause of this disease is yet undetermined but is presumed to be genetic predisposition. There may be few opportunities for veterinarian to detect this disease compared with actual situation in field because these lesions resolve spontaneously in two months. The authors detected spontaneous PJPPD case and performed clinical and pathological studies on three pigs from one farm. The specific skin lesions were observed in the forty-day old pigs of mixed breed, which were produced by the sows received semen from the same boar, restrictively.

Aeromonas hydrophilia infection was diagnosed in captive Jackass penguins (Spheniscus demersus). Seven Jackass penguins showed clinical signs including depression and anorexia with greenish vomiting, but four penguins were died although extensive treatment was carried out. At necropsy, the penguins appeared to have hemorrhage and catarrhal inflammation of the small and large intestines and severe enlargement of the right hepatic lobe, elongation of the gall bladder and pyloric ulceration of the stomach. The ovaries observed atrophy and congestion. Microscopically, there were congestion, fat droplet within the cytoplasm of the hepatic cell, infiltration of lymphocytes in the stomach, vilous detachment and destroyed glandular epithelium in the small and large intestines.

An 18-month-old male Alaskan malamute was euthanized due to slowly growing mass around the left femur after history of left posterior limb lameness. At necropsy, a firm confluent mass approximately 15cm in diameter was noted surrounding the femur and proximal portion of the tibia/ulna with traumatic ulceration of the overlying skin. On cross sections of the mass, many unencapsulated firm tan coalescing lobules were noted. The neoplasm consisted of closely packed spindle cells with homogenous eosinophilic material (osteoids) between the neoplastic cells. The pulmonary metastasis was confirmed. Based on the gross and histopathologic examinations, the case was diagnosed as juvenile osteosarcoma.

This study was performed to elucidate the effect of acupuncture and aqua-acupuncture in dogs. Each group was divided into control (18 dogs), PC-6 (6 dogs) and BL-21 (6 dogs) group for the antiemetic effect of acupuncture, respectively. And, the animals were divided into control (18 dogs), PC-6 (18 dogs) and BL-21 (18 dogs) group for the antiemetic effect of aqua-acupuncture with metoclopramide, respectively. 2% xylazine was injected to the all dogs to induce the emesis, and acupuncture and aqua-acupuncture treatment (0.5% metoclopramide) were applied to animals for 20 min. before xylazine injection, respectively.

Hermaphroditism was discovered in four dogs at surgery. For the classification of the type of hermaphroditism in each case, gross morphological and histopathological studies were performed. Based on the histopathological studies, two dogs were diagnosed as unilateral true hermaphroditism because they had mixed gonad containing testis and ovary in unilateral gonad. Whereas two dogs were diagnosed as male pseudohermaphroditism because they had only testis and uterus that had endometrial atrophy. After resection, further follow-up of several months revealed no evidence of clinical abnormalities.

Adhesions are the most common postoperative complication in intestinal surgery in dogs. This study was aimed at verify to the efficacy of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (SCMC) in the adhesion prevention during healing of intestinal anastomosis. Twenty three healthy dogs were taken with average 4.17 years and weight was 5.68 kg and divided into 4 groups. The dogs of group Ⅲ and Ⅳ, a pedicle of greater omentum was wrapped around the suture line. In the animals of group Ⅱ and Ⅳ, 1% SCMC was infused (5 ml/kg, IP) at just before closure of the abdominal cavity. Two weeks after surgery, animals were reoperated and the adhesions were evaluated and graded.

A 1.35 kg, three-year-old, female, Yorkshire terrier was referred to the veterinary medical teaching hospital of Chungnam National University with an alopecia, scale, polydipsia and polyuria. During hospitalization, the patient revealed swelling and pain of all four foot pads. The hematology indicated nonregenerative anemia. Blood serum chemistry revealed elevation of BUN, serum creatinine and phosphorus contents. Radiographs of feet revealed increased radiodensity in the soft tissue of the foot pad. In ultrasonographs of abdomen, kidneys showed diffusely echodense renal cortex with loss of the normal corticomedullary boundary.
