Мета. Комплексно оцінити морфологічні та господарсько-цінні характеристики сортів гречки їстівної (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench). Методи. Предмет досліджень – сорти гречки їстівної селекції Подільського державного аграрно-технічного університету. Аналіз їхніх кількісних, якісних і псевдоякісних ознак та господарсько-цінних характеристик здійснювали відповідно до «Методики проведення експертизи сортів рослин групи зернових, круп’яних та зернобобових на придатність до поширення в Україні» та «Методики проведення експертизи сортів гречки їстівної (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) на відмінність, однорідність і стабільність. Методика проведення експертизи сортів рослин групи зернобобових та круп’яних на відмінність, однорідність і стабільність». Польові досліди закладали на дослідному полі Науково-дослідного центру «Поділля» Подільського державного університету впродовж 2021–2022 рр. Методи дослідження: польовий, лабораторний, статистичний та аналітичний. Для ідентифікації сортів рослин здійснювали морфологічний опис їхніх вегетативних і генеративних органів (метод візуальної оцінки фенотипу). Результати. Проведено ідентифікацію сортів гречки їстівної вітчизняної селекції за морфологічними ознаками. Для польового інспектування її насінницьких посівів встановлено та оприлюднено в офіційному виданні морфологічну кодову формулу сорту. Висновки. Одержання цінних, високопродуктивних біотипів, а також рекомендованих до виробниц­тва й використовуваних у селекційній практиці конкурентоспроможних сортів, які поповнюють фонд національних рослинних ресурсів, можливе завдяки їх комплексному оцінюванню на усіх етапах селекційного процесу. Таблицю для ідентифікації сортів-кандидатів гречки їстівної вдосконалено в частині переліку проявів морфологічних ознак, розроблені кодові формули яких мають практичне застосування в польовому інспектуванні насінницьких посівів. | Purpose. To carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the morphological and economically valuable characteristics of common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) varie­ties. Methods. Common buckwheat varieties of the State University of Agriculture and Engineering in Podillia were studied. The analysis of their quantitative, qualitative and pseudo-qualitative characteristics and economically valuable traits was carried out in accordance with “Methods of examination of plant varieties of the group of cereals, grains and legumes for suitability for distribution in Ukraine” and “Metho­dology of examination of varieties of common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) for distinctness, uniformity and stability. Methodology for the examination of plant varie­ties of the legume and cereal groups for distinctness, uniformity and stability”. Field trials were carried out in 2021–2022 on the experimental field of the Scientific Research Center “Podillia” of the State University of Agriculture and Enginee­ring in Podillia. Research methods: field, laboratory, statistical and analytical. In order to identify plant varieties, a morphological description of their vegetative and generative organs was carried out (method of visual assessment of phenotype). Results. Common buckwheat varieties of domestic breeding were identified by morphological characteristics. For the field inspection of its seed crops, the morphological code formula of the variety was established and published in the official publication. Conclusions. Obtaining valuable, highly productive biotypes, as well as competitive varieties recommended for production and used in breeding practice, which reple­nish the fund of national plant resources, is possible thanks to their comprehensive evaluation at all stages of the breeding process. The table for the identification of candidate varie­ties of common buckwheat has been improved in the part of the list of morphological characteristics, the developed code formulas of which have practical application in the field inspection of seed crops.

Purpose. To study the protein content and other economically valuable traits in soybean varieties of various origin, to determine the stability and plasticity indicators of these traits, as well as to identify varieties that are promising for use in breeding programs. Methods. Field, laboratory, biochemical and statistical. Results. In total 22 soybean varieties of various origin in terms of yield, protein and oil content in seeds were investigated. High-yield and high-plasticity varieties are distinguished: ‘Muza’, ‘Mentor’, ‘Asuka’, ‘Valas’, ‘Kofu’, ‘Asuka’, ‘Cardif’, ‘Alligator’, ‘Vyshyvanka’, ‘Suziria’ and varieties of domestic breeding with stable yield ‘Siverka’, ‘Vilshanka’, ‘Ustia’, and also the ‘Lisbon’ variety. High protein content was noted in the variety ‘Opus’ – 45.0% in 2017. This variety on average for three years showed 43.63% of the protein in the seeds, and was second after the ‘Ustia’ variety (44.3%). The highest value of the regression coefficient b = 4.289 was observed in the ‘Lisbon’ varie­ty, which shows its high sensitivity to growing conditions with a fairly low average seed protein content of 38.60%, as well as the variety ‘Silesia’ b = 4.289 with an average protein value of 42,73%. Standard variety ‘Muza’ with a low protein content of 38.60% was quite stable in the expression of this characteristic – S2 = 0.222. A number of high-oil varieties were distinguished: ‘Valas’ – 22.77%, ‘Sigalia’ – 22.7%, ‘Alligator’, ‘Siverka’ – 22.53%, ‘Kofu’ – 22.13%, standard variety ‘Muza’ – 21.77%. Conclusions. In breeding programs aimed at increasing the protein content in seeds, the following varieties should be used: ‘Opus’ – as a carrier of the maximum value of the trait, as well as ‘Ustia’, ‘Asuka’, ‘Silesia’ and ‘Kasidi’ as combining high yield and high protein content. The weather conditions of the year in different ways influenced on the manifestation of the studied traits: in a favorable year for obtaining high yields, the protein content in the seeds decreased, the high protein content accumulated in a drier year, and the oil content in seeds changed insignificantly.

Purpose. To study the adaptive signs of varieties and breeding material of winter wheat developed at the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Methods. Field, laboratory (determination of the water-holding capacity of leaves at major phenological stages), structural analysis, drought tolerance estimation (the method is based on the seed ability to germinate in sugar solution with high osmotic pressure), qua­lity analysis, and statistical analysis. Results. Having a high-yiel­­ding potential, modern varieties of winter wheat realize only 45–50% of their yield potential as their adaptability is still insufficient to ensure guaranteed stable yield. Therefore, to create highly adaptive varieties and to search me­thods of evaluating breeding material in terms of adaptability remains a challenge for modern practical breeding. Among the studied in rainfed conditions winter wheat varieties of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture which are adaptable in terms of plant height and yield, there is a genetically determined difference between drought-resistant genotypes, which makes it possible to select the best of them. These genotypes are 80–90 cm tall, they ensure a yield potential of 10.5 t/ha and the following quality indicators of grain: protein content 14%, sedimentation 55–75 ml, kernel hardness 95%, gluten content 32%, gluten quality I–II group Conclusions. The research on the drought and heat resistance of winter wheat carried out in the most important ontogenetic periods against two backgrounds – irrigated and rainfed – in conditions of climate change of the steppe zone served a basis for new breeding material and varie­ties. The Institute of Irrigated Agriculture’s varieties that have complex adaptive capacity have passed state variety examination and recognized as suitable for introduction in the farms in the South of Ukraine. | Мета. Вивчити адаптивні ознаки сортів і селекційного матеріалу пшениці озимої селекції Інституту зрошуваного землеробства НААН. Методи. Тому створення сортів з високим адаптивним потенціалом, а також пошук шляхів оцінювання селекційного матеріалу за цим показником, залишається важливим завданням сучасної практичної селекції. Серед вивчених в умовах без зрошення сортів пшениці озимої селекції Інституту зрошуваного землеробства НААН України, адаптивних за ознаками висоти рослин і врожайності, існує генетично обумовлена відмінність між посухостійкими зразками, що дає змогу виділяти кращі з них. Це сортозразки висотою 80–90 см з урожайним потенціалом 10,5 т/га і показниками якості зерна: уміст білка – 14%, седиментація – 55–75 мл, склоподібність – 95%, кількість клейковини – 32%, якість клейковини – І–ІІ група. Висновки. В основу новоствореного селекційного матеріалу і сортів покладено результати досліджень щодо посухо- та жаростійкості рослин пшениці озимої, проведені в найважливіші періоди їх онтогенезу на двох фонах (зрошення – за надійного вологозабезпечення та без нього – за нестачі вологи) в умовах змін клімату степової зони. Сорти Інституту зрошуваного землеробства НААН з комплексною адаптивною здатністю пройшли державне сортовипробування і придатні для впровадження у виробництві господарств Півдня України. | Цель. Изучить адаптивные признаки сортов и селекционного материала озимой пшеницы селекции Института орошаемого земледелия НААН Украины. Методы. Полевые, лабораторные – определение водоудерживающей способности листьев в важные фенологические фазы; структурный анализ; оценивание засухоустойчивости: методика основана способности семян сортов прорастать в растворах сахара с высоким осмотическим давлением; анализы качества; статистический анализ. Результаты. Современные сорта пшеницы озимой, имея высокий показатель потенциальной урожайности, в производственных условиях реализуют его на 45–50%, пос­кольку их уровень адаптивности еще недостаточен для обеспечения гарантированно стабильных урожаев. Поэтому создание сортов с высоким адаптивным потенциалом, а также поиск путей оценки селекционного материала по этому показателю остается важной задачей современной практической селекции. Среди изученных в условиях без орошения сортов озимой пшеницы селекции Института орошаемого земледелия НААН, адаптивных по признакам высоты растений и урожайности, существует генетически обусловленная разница между засухоустойчивыми образцами, что позволяет выделять лучшие из них. Это сортообразцы высотой 80–90 см с урожайным потенциалом 10,5 т/га и показателями качества зерна: содержание белка – 14%, седиментация – 55–75 мл, стекловидность – 95%, количество клейковины – 32%, качество клейковины – I–II группа. Выводы. В основу созданного нового селекционного материала и сортов положены результаты исследований по засухо- и жаростойкости растений озимой пшеницы, проведенные в важнейшие периоды их онтогенеза на двух фонах (орошение – при надежной влагообеспеченности и без него – при недостатке влаги) в условиях изменений климата степной зоны. Сорта Института орошаемого земледелия НААН с комплексной адаптивной способностью прошли государственное сортоиспытание и пригодны для внед­рения в производстве хозяйств Юга Украины.

Мета. Вивчити особливості формування врожайності насіння й зеленої маси у люпину білого. Виявити системи зв’язків між деякими елементами продуктивності й частку внеску кожного фактора в загальну дисперсію продуктивного потенціалу для розроблення селекційних програм зі створення сортів різних напрямів використання. Методи. Польові, лабораторні, статистичний. Результати. Після обробки первинних даних показників елементів структури врожайності насіння й зеленої маси із множини характеристик рослин, які вивчали, були виділені нові основні фактори, які характеризуються рядом провідних ознак. За показниками насіннєвої продуктивності виділено п’ять основних факторів, які зумовлюють понад 86% загальної мінливості. Перший фактор описує продуктивність бічних пагонів, другий – продуктивність центральної китиці, третій – перерозподіл асимілянтів між вегетативними й репродуктивними органами, четвертий – мікроперерозподіл асимілянтів у бобах, п’ятий – здатність до формування продуктивних бобів. За аналізом структури ознак продуктивності зеленої маси виділено чотири основні фактори, які описують понад 85% загальної мінливості: перший – загальний ріст і розвиток, другий – продуктивність бічних пагонів, третій – кормову цінність, четвертий – продуктивність центральної китиці. Факторна модель дала змогу визначити провідні ознаки й частку кожної системи, що пов’язана з окремим фактором, у формуванні складної ознаки загальної продуктивності рослин люпину білого. Висновки. Факторна модель формування продуктивності насіння люпину білого включає п’ять основних факторів. Процес формування вегетативної продуктивності характеризується чотирма основними факторами. Факторну модель сорту можна використовувати у процесі добору батьківських форм і оцінки нового гібридного матеріалу.

Purpose. To analyse biochemical and economic characters of new tomato varieties adapted to the conditions of the south of Ukraine. Methods. Field study, laboratory testing, statistical analysis. Results. Intraspecific hybridization method followed by individual selection was used to create such new tomato varieties as ‘Naddnіprianskyi 1’, ‘Inguletskyi’, ‘Kimmeriiets’, ‘Sarmat’, ‘Taim’, ‘Legin’, ‘Kumach’ adapted to the conditions of the south, which are characterized by high yielding (69,2–78,0 t/ha), fruit quality (content of soluble dry matter 5,65–5,92%), drought (7,2–8,1 points) and heat (70,4–88,2%) resistance. All varieties are of intensive type, they require advanced agricultural technology, irrigation. Conclusions. New tomato varieties, namely ‘Naddnіprianskyi 1’, ‘Inguletskyi’, ‘Kimmeriiets’, ‘Sarmat’, ‘Taim’, ‘Legin’, ‘Kumach’ were entered in the State register of plant varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine. They are recommended for outdoor growing in the Steppe and Forest-Steppe zones of Ukraine.

For the resistance to a soil drought in the early stages of seed germination the key role plays the primary root system: an activity of seed germination, the number of seminal roots and their length, dry weight of roots and coleoptile length and also the degree of cold resistance at the seedling stage. The stages and methods of the creation of six-row medium-grown barley varieties Vakula and Helios and semi-dwarf varieties Ros and Halychanyn are described.

Purpose. To assess introduced samples of drought-resistant species of perennial grasses, select a promising parent material and create on its base high-yielding varie­ ies with economic characters. Methods. Field experiment, laboratory testing. Results. The results of studies on introduction and breeding were given aimed to improve drought tolerance of non-traditional perennial grasses under the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. Based on the selected parent material, varieties were created by the use of hybridization and ecotype breeding methods and then entered into the State Register of plant varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine, among them: intermediate wheatgrass (Elytrigia intermedia (Host) Nevski) – ‘Hors’, crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum (L.) Gaertn.) – ‘Petrivskyi’; meadow brome (Bromus riparia Rehm.) – ‘Boian’; slender wheatgrass (Roegneria trachycaulon (Link) Nevski) – ‘Co­umb’. As compared with conventional, relatively drought-tolerant species of smooth brome (Bromopsis inermis (Leyss.) Holub) – ‘Mars’, increment of dry matter content of these species in the extreme drought conditions of 2011 was increased by 1,52–3,73 t/ha. Under more sufficient moistening conditions of 2012, slender wheatgrass ‘Columb’ was at the level of the сheck variety in terms of this indicator. Other varieties exceeded it by 1.44–3.22 t/ha. The data was given including seed productivity and sowing quality indicators, after-ripening duration and economic fitness of seeds. Conclusions. The use of the recommended varieties of drought-resistant species of perennial grasses as part of grass mixtures will increase significantly the productivity of grasslands and pastures in the current context of climate change.
