The conditions for creating active collection of genetic material of sugar beets and coffee chicory by using the method of temperature limitations for in vitro culture are defined. It is proved that the temperature rate in culture rooms at 10 degrees Celsius ensures storing of sugar beets for ten months and chicory for eight months without transplanting.

The conditions for creating active collection of genetic material of sugar beets and coffee chicory by using the method of temperature limitations for in vitro culture are defined. It is proved that the temperature rate in culture rooms at 10 degrees Celsius ensures storing of sugar beets for ten months and chicory for eight months without transplanting.

Purpose. To reveal the features of agrobiological parameters formation of sweet sorghum various varieties and hybrids in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Methods. During 2018–2020 twenty-one varieties and hybrids of sweet sorghum of various ecological and geographical origins (Ukraine, Russia, USA, France, Germany, Hungary, Brazil) were studied in the field. Parameters like plant height and indices of their individual productivity (grain weight per panicle, 1000 grain weight, etc.), yield of dry biomass and grain, content of sugar in juice and protein in grain, as well as estimated sugar and protein yield in a crop. The counts were carried out in the phase of physiological ripeness of the culture. Results. In the group of Ukrainian varieties and hybrids, the plants were from 272 to 306 cm high, in the foreign group – from 274 to 412 cm. Varieties ‘Red Amber’, ‘Sioux’, ‘Affas CJ 899’, ‘Freed’ and ‘Early Orange’ are of high value for breeding practice, their plants were the tallest – from 388 to 412 cm. The panicle length of sweet sorghum cultivars of Ukrainian breeding ranged from 16.0 to 17.3 cm, foreign – from 11.0 to 19.4 cm. Grain weight from one panicle varied from 32.8 to 41.6 g and from 29.2 to 43.5 g, respectively. In a wide range, depending on the varietal characteristics, the indicator of the number of grains per panicle also varied from 1338 to 1708 pcs. The mass of 1000 grains of sweet sorghum ranged from 28.0 to 31.0 g in varieties and hybrids of Ukrainian breeding, in foreign ones – from 19.3 to 31.0 g. The yield of dry vegetative mass of cultivars of Ukrainian breeding was at the level of 8.24–9.11 t/ha. The highest rates were shown in hybrid ‘Mamont’ and ‘Huliver’ variety – 9.05 and 9.11 t/ha, respectively. For cultivars and hybrids of foreign breeding, this indicator varied from 7.00 to 12.17 t/ha. Significantly higher biomass in comparison with the standard variety (‘Sylosne 42’) was produced by ‘Vorai Sumac’, ‘Sorgo Cucre’, ‘Sioux’, ‘Freed’, ‘Red Amber’, ‘Mohavk’, ‘Affas CJ 899’, ‘Early Orange’ – 9.03–12.17 t/ha. The sugar content in sweet sorghum juice varied from 15.2 to 17.2%. The estimated sugar yield in Ukrainian cultivars was at the level of 0.82–0.89 t/ha, in foreign ones – from 0.72 to 1.18 t/ha. In all studied varieties it was the highest in ‘Sorgo Cucre’, ‘Sioux’, ‘Freed’, ‘Red Amber’, ‘Mohavk’, ‘Affas CJ 899’, ‘Early Orange’ – 0.94–1.18 t/ha. Conclusions. The productivity of sweet sorghum varies greatly depending on the origin of the variety and hybrid. In the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe, in order to obtain a high sugar yield, it is advisable to grow ‘Sylosne 42’, ‘Favoryt’, ‘Troistyi’, ‘Dovista’, ‘Huliver’ varieties and ‘Ananas’, ‘Medovyi’, ‘Mamont’ hybrids. Varieties ‘Vaconia Orange’, ‘Vorai Sumac’, ‘Sorgo Cucre’ and hybrids ‘Ald Sorghum’, ‘Sioux’, ‘Freed’, ‘Red Amber’, ‘Mohavk’, ‘Affas CJ 899’, ‘Early Orange’ provide high yields of vegetative masses. Hybrids ‘Freed’, ‘Affas CJ 899’ and ‘Early Orange’ produce a large vegetative mass (11.08–12.17 t/ha), grain yield (8.00–8.15 t/ha) and a high protein content (9.8–11.3%).

Purpose. To reveal features of formation of productivity of modern sugar beet hybrids of domestic selection. Methods. Field, laboratory. Results. Studies show that the lowest yields of sugar beets were obtained in 2016, 2017 and 2019. Moreover, the conditions of the unstable humidification zone of the Right-Bank part of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine were mainly characterized by unstable precipitation, a decrease in their amount, as well as increased average daily air temperatures. Therefore, the selection of high-yielding hybrids of sugar beets to obtain a high level of productivity is relevant. As evidenced by the data comparing the yield of sugar beet root crops on the test site, they significantly exceeded the average indicators for Kiev region by 10.7–20.0 t/ha, and only in arid 2016 the difference was minimal – 4.6 t/ha. The high stability of the trait “sugar content in root crops” is inherent not only in hybrids with low parameters of its manifestation, but is largely determined by the genetic characteristics of the hybrid. Three clusters were identified based on the reaction of hybrids to growing conditions. The first cluster included triploid hybrids: ‘Zluka’, ‘Oleksandriia, ‘Olzhych’, ‘Kvarta’ and ‘Konstanta’, the second one – the triploid hybrid ‘BTs ChS 57’ and diploid ‘Vesto’, the third cluster - the triploid hybrid ‘Sofiia’ and diploid ‘Ukrainskyi ChS 72’. Conclusions. Proper selection of high-yielding hybrids resistant to adverse growing conditions in the zone of unstable moisture of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine is extremely important, because the biological characteristics of hybrids affect 45% of the amount of sugar harvest, but the growing season by 33% and the interaction of factors was 17%. It was found that despite the difficult weather conditions, the highest yields were formed by hybrids: ‘Anichka’ – 70.1 t/ha, ‘Ramzes’ – 70.5 t/ha, ‘Romul’ – 73.0 t/ha and ‘BTs ChS 57’ – 73.4 t/ha. But the maximum sugar content in root crops was in hybrids: ‘Ukrainskyi ChS 72’ – 17.3%, ‘Zluka’ – 17.3% and ‘Sofiia’ – 17.7%. Accordingly, the maximum sugar harvest was provided by hybrids: ‘BTs ChS 57’ – 12.1 t/ha and ‘Romul’ – 12.2 t/ha.

Proper selection of high-yielding hybrids resistant to adverse growing conditions in the zone of unstable moisture of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine is extremely important, because the biological characteristics of hybrids affect 45% of the amount of sugar harvest, but the growing season by 33% and the interaction of factors was 17%. It was found that despite the difficult weather conditions, the highest yields were formed by hybrids: ‘Anichka’ – 70.1 t/ha, ‘Ramzes’ – 70.5 t/ha, ‘Romul’ – 73.0 t/ha and ‘BTs ChS 57’ – 73.4 t/ha. But the maximum sugar content in root crops was in hybrids: ‘Ukrainskyi ChS 72’ – 17.3%, ‘Zluka’ – 17.3% and ‘Sofiia’ – 17.7%. Accordingly, the maximum sugar harvest was provided by hybrids: ‘BTs ChS 57’ – 12.1 t/ha and ‘Romul’ – 12.2 t/ha. | Мета. Установити особливості формування продуктивності сучасних гібридів буряків цукрових вітчизняної селекції. Методи. Польові, лабораторні.Результати. Дослідження показують, що найменшу врожайність буряків цукрових було отримано у 2016, 2017 та 2019 роках. Причому умови зони нестійкого зволоження Правобережної частини Лісостепу України здебільшого характеризувалися нестійким випаданням опадів, зменшенням їхньої кількості, а також підвищеними середньодобовими температурами повітря. А тому добір високопродуктивних гібридів буряків цукрових для отримання високого рівня продуктивності є актуальним. Як свідчать дані порівняння врожайності коренеплодів буряків цукрових в умовах полігону, то вони істотно перевищували середні показники по Київській області на 10,7–20,0 т/га, і лише в посушливому 2016 році різниця була мінімальною – 4,6 т/га. Висока стабільність ознаки «вміст цукру в коренеплодах» притаманна не тільки гібридам із низькими параметрами її прояву, а значною мірою визначається й генетичними особливостями гібрида. За реакцією гібридів на умови вирощування виділено три кластери. До першого з них увійшли триплоїдні гібриди: ‘Злука’, ‘Олександрія’, ‘Ольжич’, ‘Кварта’ та ‘Константа’, до другого – триплоїдний гібрид ‘БЦ ЧС 57’ та диплоїдний ‘Весто’, до третього – триплоїдний гібрид ‘Софія’ та диплоїдний ‘Український ЧС 72’.Висновки. Правильний добір високопродуктивних гібридів, стійких до несприятливих умов вирощування в зоні нестійкого зволоження Лісостепу України, надзвичайно важливий, адже біологічні особливості гібридів на 45% впливають на величину формування збору цукру, а от умови вегетаційного періоду – на 33%, взаємодія цих чинників була на рівні 17%. Попри складні погодні умови, найбільшу врожайність формували гібриди ‘Анічка’ – 70,1 т/га, ‘Рамзес’ – 70,5, ‘Ромул’ – 73,0, ‘БЦ ЧС 57’ – 73,4 т/га. А от максимальний уміст цукру в коренеплодах був у таких гібридів, як ‘Український ЧС 72’ – 17,3%, ‘Злука’ – 17,3, ‘Софія’ – 17,7%. Максимум збору цукру забезпечували гібриди ‘БЦ ЧС 57’ і ‘Ромул’ – 12,1 і 12,2 т/га відповідно.

Purpose. To summarize results of studying consumptive qualities of different varieties of potato and define basic characteristics which allow to subsume them under specific economic categories. Methods. Field study, laboratory test, summarizing, analytical approach. Results. Potato varieties entered in the State register of plant varieties suitable to dissemination in Ukraine and new ones especially to be bred at the Institute of Potato Growing of NAAS were studied during the period of 2005–2016 for such basic economic characters as consumptive quality of tubers, content of starch, dry matters, protein, sugar, vitamins, carotenoids and mineral substances as well as aminoacids, color of flesh, suitability for industrial manufacturing of potato products and for purpose of technology. Attention was paid to the good prospects to use varieties with purple, blue and red potato tuber flesh with high antioxidant capacity. Potato varieties with above characteristics and their complex combination were defined and described. The requirements of processing industry for potato as a raw material for manufacturing of potato food were given. Conclusions. The major criterion for consumptive qualities of a potato variety and correspondingly division for the commercial use is consumptive quality of tubers, especially content of essential nutrients and their favorable combination, improved taste and cooking quality, high antioxidant capacity, suitability for potato products manufacturing and use for purpose of technology. Potato varieties can be divided for economic purposes into edible, suitable for potato products manufacturing, technical and multipurpose ones.

Purpose. Creation of experimental sugar beet hybrid combinations of high sugar yield values and defining genetic determination of their heterotic effect. Methods. Diallel crossing and topcrossing, genetic analysis of quantitative traits. Results. The authors have studied the frequency of occurrence of sugar beet heterotic hybrid combinations for «sugar yield» trait created on the basis of two pollinator lines to be genetically valuable for productivity elements, CMS lines and single-cross sterile hybrids with the use of diallel and topcrossing system of controlled hybridization. The share of parental components’ effect and their interaction in CMS hybrids variability for productivity was determined. Expediency of heterotic forecasting based on high combining ability lines was substabtiated. Promising high-yielding sugar beet combinations were selected that exceeded the group standard by 4.1–16.3%. Conclusions. The theory of genetic balance by M. V. Turbin was confirmed. Such hybrids as [CMS 5OT 4]MGP 1 (116.3%), [CMS 1OT 2]MGP 1 (112.5%) and [CMS 3OT 5]MGP 1 (113.2%) were recognized as the best for their productivity, MGP 1 and MGP 2 lines – as the best for their combining ability.

Purpose. Creation of experimental sugar beet hybrid combinations of high sugar yield values and defining genetic determination of their heterotic effect. Methods. Diallel crossing and topcrossing, genetic analysis of quantitative traits. Results. The authors have studied the frequency of occurrence of sugar beet heterotic hybrid combinations for «sugar yield» trait created on the basis of two pollinator lines to be genetically valuable for productivity elements, CMS lines and single-cross sterile hybrids with the use of diallel and topcrossing system of controlled hybridization. The share of parental components’ effect and their interaction in CMS hybrids variability for productivity was determined. Expediency of heterotic forecasting based on high combining ability lines was substabtiated. Promising high-yielding sugar beet combinations were selected that exceeded the group standard by 4.1–16.3%. Conclusions. The theory of genetic balance by M. V. Turbin was confirmed. Such hybrids as [CMS 5OT 4]MGP 1 (116.3%), [CMS 1OT 2]MGP 1 (112.5%) and [CMS 3OT 5]MGP 1 (113.2%) were recognized as the best for their productivity, MGP 1 and MGP 2 lines – as the best for their combining ability.

The example of various varieties and hybrids of sugar sorghum illustrates the summary of study on assessing varying density of plants in crops on phonological characteristics of sugar sorghum plants, carbohydrate composition of sorghum juice and yield of its plants. The completed study established that one hectare of sugar sorghum, subject to varietal characteristics and varying density of plants in crop, may provide the green weight of 40.83 до 106.87 t/ha at stem juice yield of 22,27 to 56,24 t/ha, which would contain 2.31 to 6.09 t/ha of total sugars suitable for bioethanol production in at the rate of 198.25 to 501.19 dal/ha. However, despite of higher estimate of total sugars yield and bioethanol at 300 thousand plants per ha density in crop, industrial plots would preferably have plant density in crops ranging within 200...250 thousand pieces per ha. Since higher density increases dry matter content of plants, consequentially, cellulose and lignin in stems, this may create preconditions for harvest losses due to stem lod ging Besides, 200 thousand plants per hectare enables to reach the highest level of photosynthesis net productivity which combines high intensity of the photosynthesis with photosynthetic activity of leaf surface.

Abstract The relationship between entomopathogenic fungi and their insect hosts is a classic example of the co-evolutionary arms race between pathogen and target host. The present review describes the entomopathogenic potential of Chytridiomycota and Blastocladiomycota fungi, and two groups of fungal allies: Oomycota and Microsporidia. The Oomycota (water moulds) are considered as a model biological control agent of mosquito larvae. Due to their shared ecological and morphological similarities, they had long been considered a part of the fungal kingdom; however, phylogenetic studies have since placed this group within the Straminipila. The Microsporidia are parasites of economically-important insects, including grasshoppers, lady beetles, bumblebees, colorado potato beetles and honeybees. They have been found to display some fungal characteristics, and phylogenetic studies suggest that they are related to fungi, either as a basal branch or sister group. The Blastocladiomycota and Chytridiomycota, named the lower fungi, historically were described together; however, molecular phylogenetic and ultrastructural research has classified them in their own phylum. They are considered parasites of ants, and of the larval stages of black flies, mosquitoes and scale insects.

Purpose. To assess the demand for sorghum seed material and sufficiency of domestic seeds. Results. The analysis of the State register for the period of 2002–2012 showed that there was the tendency not only towards increasing quantity of sorghum crops in general but their substitution by hybrids of foreign breeding. During the period from 2002 to 2017, 72 sorghum varieties were entered on the State register in total, among them only 12 varieties were of domestic breeding, the rest 60 was presented by foreign breeding institutions. Investigation results allowed to determine that the production of base and prebase seeds of sorghum in 2010 amounted to 1,3 t, in 2016 was 43 t. During the same period the production of sugar sorghum increased from 0,2 to 12,0 t, grass sorghum – from 4,0 to 83 t. In 2017, requirements of acreage of such crops as grass sorghum and broomcorn were completely satisfied by the amount of grown seeds. At the same time, the need for seeds of sorghum and sugar sorghum can not be covered completely at the expense of domestic varieties reproduction. In 2017, general demand for sorghum seeds was 400,5 t, among which only 42,0 t was of domestic production. The rest demand for seeds will be met at the expense of import of foreign breeding seeds into the country to be grown and prepared for sowing abroad. Conclusions. In the Register of plant varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine, there are 72 sorghum varieties among them only 12 varieties were of domestic breeding, that is 17%, as compared to 83% of recommended great sorghum varieties of foreign breeding. In Ukraine, the area occupied by sorghum cultivation was 22,8 thou ha in 2005, up to 2017 it increased to 89,0 thou ha, and accordingly the demand for seeds run up from 102,6 to 400,5 t. The area occupied by the sugar sorghum in 2005 amounted to only 2,6 thou ha, in 2017 – 20,0 thou ha, that accordingly determined increase of demand for seed material from 13,0 to 99,9 t. In 2017, the part of the area where domestic hybrids of sorghum are growing was 10%, hybrids of sugar sorghum – 12%, that was indicative of very poor situation with domestic varieties dissemination.

Цель. Оценить потребность в семенном материале сорговых культур и обеспеченность отечественным семенами.Результаты. По результатам анализа Государственного реестра за 2002–2017 гг., наблюдается тенденция не только к увеличению количества сорговых культур в целом, но и к замещению их гибридами зарубежной селекции. Всего за период с 2002 по 2017 г. в Государственный реестр внесено 72 сорта сорго обыкновенного двухцветного, из них только 12 сортов отечественной селекции, остальные 60 представлены зарубежными селекционными учреждениями. По результатам проведенных исследований установлено, что производство базовых и добазовых семян сорго обыкновенного двухцветного в 2010 г. достигало 1,3 т, в 2016 – 42 т. За аналогичный период производство семян сорго сахарного возросло с 0,2 до 12,0 т, сорго суданского – с 4,0 до 83,0 т. В 2017 г. для обеспечения потребностей посевных площадей таких культур, как сорго суданское и сорго веничное вполне достаточно выращенных семян. В то же время потребность в семенах сорго обыкновенного двухцветного и сорго сахарного не в полной мере может быть обеспечена за счет размножения отечественных сортов. В 2017 г. общая потребность в семенах сорго обыкновенного двухцветного составляет 400,5 т, из которых лишь 42,0 т – отечественного производства. Остальная потребность в семенах будет обеспечена за счет импорта в страну семян зарубежной селекции, в частности выращенного и подготовленного к севу.Выводы. В Реестр сортов растений, пригодных к распространению в Украине, внесены 72 сорта сорго обыкновенного двухцветного, из них только 12 сортов отечественной селекции, то есть 17% по сравнению с 83% рекомендованных сортов сорго двухцветного зарубежной селекции. Площади, занятые в Украине под выращиванием сорго обыкновенного двухцветного, в 2005 г. составляли 22,8 тыс. га, до 2017 г. они выросли до 89,0 тыс. га, соответственно и потребность в семенах – с 102,6 до 400, 5 т. Площади, занятые под сорго сахарным, по состоянию на 2005 г. составляли всего 2,6 тыс. га, в 2017 г. – 20,0 тыс. га, что соответственно и определило повышение потребности в семенном материале с 13,0 до 99,9 т. В 2017 доля площадей, на которых выращивают отечественные гибриды сорго обыкновенного двухцветного, составляет 10%, гибриды сорго сахарного – 12%, что свидетельствует о крайне неудовлетворительной ситуации с распространением отечественных сортов. | Мета. Оцінити потребу в насіннєвому матеріалі соргових культур та забезпеченість вітчизняним насінням.Результати. За результатами аналізу Державного реєстру за 2002–2017 рр., спостерігається тенденція не тільки до збільшення кількості соргових культур загалом, а й до заміщення їх гібридами зарубіжної селекції. Всього за період з 2002 по 2017 р. до Державного реєстру внесено 72 сорти сорго звичайного двокольорового, з них лише 12 сортів вітчизняної селекції, решту 60 представлено зарубіжними селекційними установами. За результатами проведених досліджень визначено, що виробництво базового та добазового насіння сорго звичайного двокольорового в 2010 р. було на рівні 1,3 т, у 2016 р. – 42 т. За аналогічний період виробництво насіння сорго цукрового зросло з 0,2 до 12,0 т, сорго суданського – з 4,0 до 83,0 т. У 2017 р. для забезпечення потреб посівних площ таких культур, як сорго суданське та сорго віникове повністю достатньо вирощеного насіння. Водночас, потреба в насінні сорго звичайного двокольорового та сорго цукрового не повною мірою може бути забезпечена за рахунок розмноження вітчизняних сортів. У 2017 р. загальна потреба в насінні сорго звичайного двокольорового становить 400,5 т, з яких лише 42,0 т – вітчизняного виробництва. Решта потреби в насінні буде забезпечена за рахунок імпорту в країну насіння зарубіжної селекції, зокрема вирощеного та підготовленого до сівби за кордоном.Висновки. У Державному реєстрі сортів рослин, придатних до поширення в Україні, перебуває 72 сорти сорго звичайного двокольорового, з них лише 12 сортів вітчизняної селекції, тобто 17%, порівняно з 83% рекомендованих сортів сорго двокольорового іноземної селекції. Площі, зайняті в Україні під вирощуванням сорго звичайного двокольорового, в 2005 р. становили 22,8 тис. га, до 2017 р. вони зросли до 89,0 тис. га, відповідно й потреба в насінні – з 102,6 до 400,5 т. Площі, зайняті під сорго цукровим, станом на 2005 р., становили всього 2,6 тис. га, в 2017 р. – 20,0 тис. га, що відповідно й визначило підвищення потреби в насіннєвому матеріалі з 13,0 до 99,9 т. У 2017 р. частка площ, на яких вирощують вітчизняні гібриди сорго звичайного двокольорового, становить 10%, гібриди сорго цукрового – 12%, що свідчить про вкрай незадовільну ситуацію з поширенням вітчизняних сортів. | Purpose. Purpose. Reporting peculiarities of new forms of edible corn and prospects for their use in food production that have been created jointly by scientists from the Plant Production Institute nd. a. V. Ya. Yuryev of NAAS and Ustymivka Experimental Station for Plant Production on the base of the environmentally friendly method that uses biochemical effects of natural mutations of corn grain endosperm structure. Methods. Field study, laboratory analysis, mathematical and statistical evaluation. Results. Original series of inbred lines as well as promising varieties and hybrids of sugar and waxy corns were obtained. Varieties and hybrids are universally usable for obtaining both fresh and canned products, characterized by good taste, provide yields of up to 10 tons per hectare of commercial products and aimed to grow in various soil and climatic conditions. Brief economic and morphological characteristics of corn varieties and hybrids created jointly by scientists from the Plant Production Institute nd. a. V. Ya. Yuryev of NAAS and Ustymivka Experimental Station for Plant Production were given. Conclusions. The use of biochemical effect of natural mutations of endosperm structure is cost-effective and environmentally friendly method for creating lines, varieties and hybrids of corn for direct consumption and processing into food products. ‘Biliavka’, ‘Nika’ varieties and ‘Binom F1’, ‘Solo F1’, ‘Twister F1’ hybrids created with the help of this method are promising for commercial use
