Unique features of Myronivs’ka 808 variety have provided its triumph in agricultural production in the former Soviet Union and other countries. Myronivs’ka 808 has become one of the most popular varieties in terms of sown areas (in 1971 over 9.5 million hectares) in the world production. Up to now the variety has been cultivated in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan. Myronivs’ka 808 variety gained leadership in the global selection process as a source of high grain quality, high productivity, general adaptability and plasticity. Using germplasm of this variety enabled to develop over 400 wheat varieties including 350 winter varieties and 60 spring varieties.

The article presents summary of studying the efficiency of dry carrot production when growing in the conditions of Ukraine’s Forest-Steppe subject to a variety. A complex assessment has been completed for fresh and dried products of 10 different varieties and hybrids of carrots on the content of basic biochemical, economic and biological indicators in order to highlight the best suited for drying. Varieties have been singled out, which roots display the highest yield, best marketability, accumulate the most of dry matter, sugars, etc. A close direct correlation between the weight of roots and their marketability has been established. An evaluation of the tested roots for complex organoleptic characteristics has been completed. It is proved that carrot drying is profitable. The yield and dry matter content in roots are key influence factors on profitability of dry carrot production. By the set of parameters under studying varieties most suitable for drying, Krasniy Velikan and Dlinnaia Krasnaia, have been selected. Profitability of their drying exceeds 40%.

Betaintercross Breeding Program for Sugar Beet has been developed by, and is implemented in, the Institute for Bioenergy Crops, formerly known as Sugar Beets Institute (ISB). Ivansivsk Variety Testing Station has been fully engaged into implementation of the Program since 1996. Key task for the Program is to draw genetic potential of breeding materials of sugar beet of the Institute research entities, namely Bila Tserkva Breeding Research Station, Ivanivsk Breeding Research Station, Uladovo-Liulinets Breeding Research Station, Uman Breeding Research Station, Ialtushkivka Breeding Research Station, as well as domestic and foreign companies with the view of maximizing the effect of heterosis use with the view of producing highly productive hybrids of new generation. Over various years, apart from various experimental re-search entities of the Institute, such companies as KWS (Germany), Novi Sad Institute (Serbia), Ramon (Russia), Danisco Seed (Denmark), Belorus ZDS and others have taken part [in the above Program]. The article provides key principles for the Program implementation scheme and its method. The cooperation has enabled to produce a range of highly productive hybrids listed in the State Register capable of competing at today’s market of sugar beet seed. Among these there are hybrids produced jointly with Ivanivsk Research Breeding Station, in particular: Romul (2005), Prometei (2008), Ramses (2009), Risolt (2007), Kvarta (2010), Zluka (2010), ITSB 0801 (2011), ITSB 0802 (2011), ITSB 0904 (2012), ITSB 0905 (2012).

The article features the results of research on phenological observations, biometric parameters of growth and development of the plants of sugar sorghum Silosnoe 42 variety during the vegetation at different terms of sowing and seeding depth in the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. In particular, we show data on ground germination capacity of the seeds, the duration of the interphase periods, tillering, plant height and the diameter of the stem. It was established that the planting of sugar sorghum in mid-May (the third sowing date) to the seeding depth of 4...6 cm enabled better plant development, as well as in these conditions the maximum values of plant growth and development were registered compared to the other test editions. Therefore, were would suggest the third term of sowing and seed depth 4...6 cm for growing the crop in this area.

The paper highlights results of 60 years of apple breeding activity at the All-Russian Research Institute for Fruit Crop Breeding of RAAS (former Orel Zonal Fruit-Berry Experimental Station). Major selection effort has been applied to apple breeding for higher contents of ascorbic acid and P-active substances in fruit. A pattern of the inheritance of biologically active substances in apple fruits is shown. First time in Russia a large-scale selection has taken place for the purpose of developing domestic scab immune apple varieties (Vf ). 20 scab immune varieties have been created and included into the State Register. First time in Russia and in the world a range of triploid apple varieties have been developed through directed diverse chromosome crossings 2x x 4x and 4x x 2x.

The article deals with priority directions of vegetable and melon plants selection. The wide varieties of alien genetic information transferring methods during the transgenic plants creation of vegetable and melon species are grounded. The essence of the new hybrids identification method as genetic engineering products: kind of cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, zucchini, lettuce seed, pea Pisum sativum), common bean, eggplant and capsicum is revealed. The transgenosis main directions of botanical taxa varieties of vegetable and melon plants on condition of the international and national practice holding are proved. The international practice of the state approbation and registration of genetically engineered structures in biological objects (plant varieties) and in their processed products are studied. A monitoring about food and pharmaceutical substances based on genetically modified varieties and hybrids structures of vegetable and melon plants have been held.

Показана суть методов идентификации новых гибридов, как продуктов генной инженерии: рода капуст, томата, моркови, кабачка, салата посевного, гороха посевного, фасоли обыкновенной, баклажана и перца однолетнего. Приведены главные направления трансгеноза сортов ботанических таксонов овощных и бахчевых растений в международной и отечественной практике. Изучена международная практика государственной апробации и регистрации генетически модифицированных конструкций в биологических объектах (сорта растений) и в продуктах их переработки. Проведен мониторинг продуктов питания и фармакологических веществ, созданных на основе генетически модифицированных конструкций сортов и гибридов группы овощных, бахчевых. | Висвітлено пріоритетні напрями селекції овочевих та баштанних рослин. Обґрунтовано широке різноманіття методів переносу чужорідної генетичної інформації за створення трансгенних рослин овочевих і баштанних видів. Розкрито суть методів ідентифікації нових гібридів як продуктів генної інженерії: роду капусти, помідора їстівного, моркви, кабачка, салату посівного, гороху посівного, квасолі звичайної, баклажана та перцю однорічного. Наведено головні напрями трансгенезу сортів ботанічних таксонів овочевих і баштанних рослин у міжнародній та вітчизняній практиці. Вивчено міжнародну практику державної апробації та реєстрації генетично модифікованих конструкцій у біологічних об’єктах (сорти рослин) та в продуктах їхньої переробки. Проведено моніторинг продуктів харчування і фармакологічних речовин, створених на основі генетично модифікованих конструкцій сортів і гібридів групи овочевих і баштанних рослин.

In the article the authors show outcome of three years observation of blackcurrant varieties bred by Study Horticulture Department NULES of Ukraine for their suitabi lity to machine harvesting. Blackcurrant is the most common berry crop in Ukraine. When establishing intensive industrial plantations the varieties suitable for machine harvesting should be used. During 2006-2008 limited and unlimited traits of varieties bred by NULES of Ukraine suitability to combine harvesting were studied. All parameters of the examined varieties were compared against the requirements of the «ideal variety”. Simultaneous ripening of berries was observed in varieties Dochka Vorskly – 93,6%, Hovtva, Pamyaty Leonida Myhalevskoho – 92,6%. The pick off effort required to collect berries out of their clusters for all varieties but Yarynka was within acceptable range of 67...129 g. By effort applied for berries crush only Yarynka has failed to meet the necessary requirements. All the varie ties but Yarynka have been found suitable by growth habit of their bush (upright and semi-spread). Insufficient number fruits (6-7 pc.) in clusters for varieties Narodna and Yarynka was noted. Berries weight for all studied varieties ranged within 1.27-1.84 g, their drop-off was 3-8%, duration of harvesting period ranged from 8 to 10 days, so all the parameters of varieties suggested they were suitable for picking berries by berry harvesters. Varieties Dochka Vorskly, Universitetska, Hovtva, Pamyatna, Premiera, Narodna, Leleka and Pamyaty Leonida Myhalevskoho were selected as suitable for combine harvesting by the complex of positive parameters.

Черная смородина – наиболее распространенная ягодная культура в Украине. При закладке интенсивных промышленных насаждений подбирают сорта, пригодные для механизированного сбора урожая. На протяжении 2006–2008 гг. проводились исследования по изучению лимитированных и нелимитированных признаков пригодности сортов селекции НУБиП Украины к комбайновому сбору ягод. Все показатели исследуемых сортов сравнивались с требованиями идеального сорта. Одновременное созревание ягод наблюдалось у сортов Дочка Ворсклы – 93,6%, Говтва, Памяти Леонида Михалевского – 92,6%. Усилия отрыва ягод от кисти у всех сортов, кроме сорта Ярынка было 67–129 г, что находится в пределах допустимого. По усилию раздавливания ягод только сорт Ярынка не соответствует необходимым параметрам. По форме куста (прямостоячий и полуразвесистый) все сорта пригодны, за исключением сорта Ярынка. Недостаточное количество ягод в кисти (6–7 шт.) отмечено у сортов Народна и Ярынка. Масса ягоды всех исследуемых сортов колебалась в пределах 1,27–1,84 г, осыпание ягод составляет 3–8%, продолжительность уборочной спелости ягод колебалась от 8 до 10 дней – по этим показателям исследуемые сорта пригодны для сбора ягод комбайнами. По комплексу положительных показателей выделены пригодные к комбайновой уборке урожая сорта: Дочка Ворсклы, Университетская, Говтва, Памятна, Премьера, Народна, Лэлэка и Памяти Леонида Михалевского. | У статті наведено результати трирічного вивчення придатності до механізованого способу збирання ягід сортів смородини селекції кафедри садівництва НУБіП України. Чорна смородина – найпоширеніша ягідна культура в Україні. За закладання інтенсивних промислових насаджень добираються сорти, придатні для механізованого збору врожаю. Впродовж 2006–2008 рр. проводилися дослідження щодо вивчення лімітованих і нелімітованих ознак придатності сортів селекції НУБіП України до комбайнового збирання ягід. Усі показники досліджуваних сортів порівнювалися із вимогами ідеального сорту. Одночасне достигання ягід спостерігалась у сортів Дочка Ворскли – 93,6%, Говтва, Пам’яті Леоніда Михалевського – 92,6%. Зусилля для відриву ягід від грона в усіх сортів, окрім Яринка, становило 67–129 г, що знаходиться в межах допустимого. За зусиллям роздушування ягід лише сорт Яринка не відповідає необхідним параметрам. За формою куща (пряморосла та напіврозлога) всі сорти є придатними, за винятком сорту Яринка. Недостатня кількість ягід у гроні (6–7 шт.) відмічена у сортів Народна і Яринка. Маса ягоди у всіх досліджуваних сортів варіювала в межах 1,27–1,84 г, осипання ягід становить 3–8%, тривалість збиральної стиглості ягід коливалась від 8 до 10 днів – за всіма показниками сорти є придатними для збирання ягід комбайнами. The research of morho-agrobiological, yield related, adaptive properties and flexibility of soft winter wheat new varieties as listed in the State Register of Varieties in 2011-2012 has been completed. Types of requirements to the conditions of production, intensity level have been established, classification by plant height and maturity group completed. Among the recently listed varieties highly intensive and intensive varieties prevail, while there is a lack of flexible varieties that narrows the varietal diversity, atrophy of the ecological flexibility and adaptivity, as well as does not facilitate yield stability over the years. The highest productivity potential has been established | Исследованы морфоагробиологические, урожайные, адаптивные свойства и пластичность сортов пшеницы озимой мягкой, внесенных в Государственный регистр сортов у 2010–2011 гг., установлено типы требований к условиям производства, уровень интенсивности, проведено классификацию по высоте растений и группам спелости. По наиболее важным хозяйственно-биологическим свойствам, урожайному потенциалу и уровню интенсивности среди них есть высокоинтенсивные, интенсивные та пластичные. Среди вновь зрегистрированных преобладают высокоинтенсивные и интенсивные сорта и минимум пластичных, что приводить к сужению сортового разнообразия, потере экологической пластичности и адаптивности, не способствует стабилизации урожайности по годам. Высшим потенциалом продуктивности отличаются сорта: Славна, Чорнява, Нива Киевщины, Княгиня Ольга, Спасивка, а пластичностью и адаптивностью – Пылыпивка, Лымаривна, Лазурная, Чародийка билоцеркивская, Лебёдка одесская. За 2009–2011 гг. испытываемые сорта по оптимальной плотности стеблестоя более высокую урожайность формировали при наибольшей высоте растений в отличии от предыдущих годов, когда она выделялась из-за генетически обусловленной высоты. | Досліджено морфоагробіологічні, врожайні, адаптивні властивості, а також пластичність сортів пшениці м’якої озимої (Triticum aestivam L.), занесених у Державний Реєстр у 2010– 2011 рр., встановлено типи вимог до умов вирощування, рівень інтенсивності, проведено класифікацію за висотою рослин і групами стиглості. За найважливішою господарсько- біологічною властивістю, урожайним потенціалом і рівнем інтенсивності серед них є високоінтенсивні, інтенсивні та пластичні. Серед новозареєстрованих переважають високоінтенсивні та інтенсивні сорти й обмаль пластичних, що призводить до звуження сортового різноманіття, втрати екологічної пластичності й адаптивності, не сприяє стабілізації врожайності за роками. Вищим потенціалом продуктивності вирізняються сорти Славна, Чорнява, Нива Київщини, Княгиня Ольга, Спасівка, а пластичністю й адаптивністю – Пилипівка, Лимарівна, Лазурна, Чародійка білоцерківська, Лебідка одеська. За 2009–2011 рр. досліджувані сорти за оптимальної щільності стеблостою вищу урожайність формували за найвищої висоти рослин, на відміну від попередніх років, коли вона вищою відмічалася за генетично обумовленої висоти.
