In order to collect information about the presence of priority and other substances whose quality standards are defined by Directive 2008/105/EC, the water and sediment quality monitoring was carried out in 6 sampling locations in four rivers and 14 sampling locations in protected areas in AP Vojvodina. The waters of the Carska Wetland, Ludas Lake and Danube River exceeded the quality standards for pentachlorobenzene, while the quality standard for cadmium was only exceeded in Carska Wetland. The priority substances detected in the sediment were lead, nickel, mercury, trifluralin, isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), pentachlorobenzene, hexachlorobenzene, 4-octylphenol, naphthalene, anthracene, fluoranthene, benzo(b)-and benzo(k)-flouranthene, benzo(g,h,i)-perylene and indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene.

The aim of this work was to determine the bacteriological status of water catchment, basin, which is used for water supply of the town of Krusevac, as well as the distribution of present bacteria morphotypes. The total count of bacteria ranged from 1.35x10**5/ml to 2.09x10**7/ml. The number of aerobic heterotrophs ranged from 415 CFU/ml to 64,500 CFU/ml. The differentiation of bacteria in three morphotypes (rods, cocci and curved) was made. Representation of rods ranged from 40.05% to 78.71%, cocci from 4.39% to 60.88% and curved from 1.54% to 17.20%. Seasonal and vertical distribution of morphotypes showed increased presence of rods and curved forms in terms of increased bacteriological load of water, while the presence of cocci increased in conditions of cleaner water.

Results of phytoplankton investigations that were performed in May, July, August and October 2010 are presented in this paper. The investigated areas are in Boka Kotorska Bay on four locations: Kotor Bay-IBM, Tivat Bay, Hercegnovi Bay-two positions and one position on the open sea – Mamula. In this area the influence of the open sea and the land are expressed to the phytoplankton community. As a consequence of that quantities of phytoplankton are lower in the outer part and higher in the inner part. Diatoms are the most dominant species, which is very frequent in the eutrophic area.

Species belong to class Holothuriidae play significant role in the transmission of energy within the sea bottom biocoenoses. Their abundance and distribution have high impact on the biocoenoses dynamic and at the same time it can be use as indicator of the anthropogenic influence on marine environment. Data present in the paper are results of the investigation of their distribution on the Montenegrin shelf and comparison with neighboring area. Obtained results show presence of six species, and two of them are for the first time recorded for a given area.

The paper presents results of studies of biology and fisheries of red mullet (Mullus barbatus, L.) which was done within the frame of AdriaMed Trawl survey Project 2007/08. The Project encompassed monthly research of several target species in trawl fisheries of Montenegrin waters during one year in three most important fisheries ports in Montenegro (Bar, Budva and Herceg Novi). Total length of red mullet ranged from 9.1 to 21.5 cm with an average value of 15.1 cm. Length frequency distribution, length-weight relationship and sex ratio were analyzed.

Sea urchin gametes, embryos and larvae can be used for quick, cheap and reliable screening and testing of pharmacologically active substances and pollutants. Effects of fecal pollution of Kotor Bay water and mercury in sediments and water of Risan Bay on embryonic development of spotted sea urchin (S. granularis), were examined. The results showed malformations, blockade of adhesion blastomeras and normal embryonic development. This distortion of development is about the suppression of the normal process of cortical granule exocytosis during activation reaction that starts fertilization, response Ring wave and increased level of free calcium ions in intimately membrane layer.

In this study we examined the possibility of conventional electrokinetic treatment of electroplating sludge as well as the application of galvanic instead of electrochemical cell. The following efficacies were achieved by using the electrochemical and galvanic cell, respectively: 45 and 43% for Ni, 43 and 16% for Cu, 30 and 27% for Zn and 46 and 38% for Cr. Although sludge is hazardous after treatment, significant metal contents were removed so the metal recycling can be accomplished. It can be also concluded that similar efficacies were accomplished after using galvanic and electrochemical cell for EK treatment.

This study was performed to investigate the influence of the ozonation process on natural organic matter (NOM) and trihalomethane, haloacetonitrile and chloropicrin precursors in groundwater. The largest reduction in dissolved organic carbon, DOC (up to 25%) and UV 254 values (up to 69%) was achieved using 3 mg O3/mg DOC. Reducing the total organic matter resulted in a reduction of trihalomethanes precursors to 194 micro g/L. On the other hand, when it comes to the precursors of the high priority nitrogenous disinfection by-products, the oxidation of NOM by ozone and the resulting increase in organic matter with a low molecular lead to an increase in the haloacetonitrile precursors compared to the raw water and the formation of chloropicrin precursors.
