Antioxidant and Oxidant status of medicinal plant Echium italicum collected from different regions Полный текст

It is known that plants have been used by humans for a very long time in the treatment of diseases. A wide variety of plant species grown in different regions have been very successful in the treatment of many diseases. In this study, Echium italicum L. plant collected from different regions was used as material. The plant was extracted with ethanol in a soxhlet device. Then, antioxidant and oxidant levels of the plant extract were determined using Rel Assay kits. As a result of the analysis, the TAS values of the plant were determined 5.442±0.240 (Gaziantep), 4.896±0.081 (Hakkari) and 6.056±0.139 (Mersin), TOS values were 21.372±0.747 (Gaziantep), 12.255±0.341 (Hakkari) and 19.107±0.438 (Mersin), OSI values were 0.395±0.027 (Gaziantep), 0.250±0.005 (Hakkari), and 0.316±0.005 (Mersin). It was observed that antioxidant and oxidant values changed as the regions where the plant was collected changed. In addition, it was determined that E. italicum could be a natural antioxidant source.

Bu çalışma, Japon Bıldırcınlarının (Coturnix coturnix japonica) beyaz ve kahverengi iki farklı varyetesinde, bazı zoometrik ölçümler ve canlı ağırlıkların, karşılaştırmalı olarak belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bunun için aynı beslenme ve çevre şartlarında barındırılan, beyaz ve kahverengi varyetelerinden 30'ar (15 erkek, 15 dişi), toplam 60 adet, altı haftalık yaştaki bıldırcında, canlı ağırlıklar ve on iki farklı vücut ölçümüne ait değişkenler değerlendirilmiştir. Altı haftalık yaştaki ortalama canlı ağırlıklar açısından literatür bildirimlerinin birçoğuna göre daha yüksek değerler elde edilmekle birlikte bu çalışmada karşılaştırılan iki renk varyetesi açısından herhangi bir fark görülmezken, dişiler erkeklerden istatistiki olarak anlamlı olacak şekilde daha ağır bulunmuştur. İstatistiki anlamlılıkların elde edildiği zoometrik ölçümlerden kafa genişliği, gaga uzunluğu, gaga genişliği, sternum uzunluğu, bacak uzunluğu ve kanat uzunluğu açısından beyaz bıldırcınlar kahverengi olanlardan daha yüksek değerlere sahip olurken cinsiyete göre ise canlı ağırlık, vücut uzunluğu, göğüs çevresi ve tarsus çevresi değişkenlerinde dişiler daha yüksek değerler almışlardır. Altı haftalık yaştaki Japon bıldırcınlarının canlı ağırlıkları ile kafatası uzunluğu, beden uzunluğu, sternum uzunluğu, orta parmak uzunluğu, kanat uzunluğu, göğüs çevresi ve tarsus çapı değişkenleri arasında pozitif korelasyonlar tespit edilmiştir. Bıldırcın yetiştiriciliğinin yaygınlaşması için tüketiminin artması gerçeği göz önüne alındığında, insanların beslenmede bıldırcınları tercih etmelerini sağlayacak unsurlar üzerinde daha kapsamlı çalışmaların yapılması önerilebilir.

Biyoteknolojik yöntemlerle canlıların gen dizilimlerinin değiştirilip, mevcut özelliklerinin geliştirilmesi ve/veya yeni özellikler kazandırılması ile elde edilen organizmalara genetiği değiştirilmiş organizma (GDO) denilmektedir. Bebeklerin yaşamlarının ilk ayları boyunca tükettikleri bebek sütleri ve bebek devam sütleri de türevlerine göre soya, mısır, pirinç gibi ürünleri içerebilmektedir. Dünya’da yoğun olarak genetiği değiştirilmiş organizma sınıfında üretilen bu bileşenleri içeren bebek formüllerinde de GDO taraması yapılması gerektiği düşünülmüştür. Bu çalışmada, 2011 yılında Türkiye’de piyasaya sürülen bebek sütlerinde ve bebek devam sütlerinde, kül, % rutubet, toplam yağ, karbonhidrat, protein analizleri ve real time PCR yöntemi ile GDO taraması yapılmıştır. GDO taraması sonucunda p35S, tNOS ve pFMV izgenlerini içeren ürüne rastlanmamıştır.

Probiotic yoghurt with fruit was produced to enrich the intestinal flora of infants and to prevent various ailments in infants when the flora is inadequate. Peach, apple and pear purees (10% and 20% each), cow milk, milk powder, starter culture (combination of Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum and Lactobacillus paracasei) were used in the production of probiotic yogurt for babies. Some properties of yoghurt samples were investigated during fermentation and on the 1st, 7th, 14th and 21st days of storage. After ten hours of fermentation, the lowest pH was observed in samples with apple puree. It has been determined that syneresis increases with increasing concentrations of fruit purees. The water holding capacity was less in yoghurts containing fruit puree compared to control yoghurt and in 20% fruit puree compared to yoghurts containing 10% fruit puree. The number of L. bulgaricus generally increased in all samples during storage. It was determined that the number of S. thermophilus in control sample was higher than other samples during storage. The number of L. paracasei and Bifidobacterium spp. decreased during storage. While the control sample remained probiotic until the 14th day of storage, other samples lost its probiotic properties before the 7th day of storage. Considering that the number of probiotic microorganisms in a probiotic product should be at least 106-107 CFU/g according to FAO, it has been decided that the most suitable fruits for probiotic yogurt with fruit puree are peach and apple, respectively. Considering the structural features, it is more appropriate to use 10% fruit puree, and considering the probiotic feature, it is more appropriate to use 20% fruit puree. Choosing the appropriate packaging and fixing suitable storage conditions will help probiotic microorganisms to preserve their vitality for a long time.

This research was conducted with durum wheat variety (Alatay) at farmer conditions in Bozova district of Şanlıurfa province in 2018-19 and 2019-20 growing season according to a randomized complete block design with three replications. This study was conducted to determine the effect of dividing the top fertilizer in different development periods of wheat on grain yield and some yield factors (plant height, spike length, number of grains per spike, grain weight per spike) in order to struggle the drought experienced due to global warming in the world and in our country. According to the research results, it was determined that grain yield, plant height, spike length, number of grains per spike, weight of grains per spike ranged from 347.50-648.33 kg/da, 78.16-98.33 cm, 6.28-6.91 cm, 32.00 number/spike and 64.16 number/spike 2.47 gr/spike and 2.77 gr/spike respectively. The aim of the experiment is to determine how the top-dressing is divided and how the plant benefits from the moisture and nitrogen fertilizer in the soil and how it affects the grain yield and yield components of the plant.

This study was aimed to evaluate DNA fragmentation by using Comet assay in naturally infected sheep with Anaplasmosis before and after treatment with the Comet method, which shows DNA damage specifically. In the study, blood samples were collected from 10 Anaplosmosis infected and 10 healthy sheep. The anaplosmosis was diagnosed by clinical signs and symptoms. The infection was confirmed by Giemsa staining. The blood was collected from control group and infected group before and after the treatment, from the vena jugularis with the appropriate method. The DNA fragmentation was checked by using the Comet assay of blood cells. The data were analysed throught ANNOVA one-way. The result showed higher DNA fragmentation in sick animals diagnosed with anaplasmosis; tail length and tail moment values were found to be statistically significantly higher than the control group. When the data obtained after imidocarb (IMD) application were compared with obtained during the disease, a decreased DNA damage and tail moment was determined, however, these values higher than control. In this study, DNA damage and the extent of this damage were investigated by the Comet assay method using a healthy control group before and after treatment in animals with Anaplasmosis. When the findings obtained from the study were evaluated, it was seen that Anaplasma agents caused DNA damage and with the imidocarb application given for treatment, DNA damage was reduced and results close to healthy individuals were obtained.

Nutrient elements, one of the major factors shaping plant development, are the major components of plants, and, after being taken from the soil, they are present in different organs of plant at different concentrations. The speciation of nutrient elements within plant body is vital importance for determining the contribution to plant development, knowing the transfer between organs within the body of organs, clearly understanding the factors influencing plant development, and shaping the plant development. In the present study, the change of the concentrations of K and Mg (macronutrient elements) and Cu (micronutrient elements) by species and organ in woody species Prunus cerasifera, Platanus orientalis, Acer negundo, Fraxinus excelsior, Catalpa bignonioides, Aesculus hippocastanum, and Tilia platypyllos. As a result, it was found that the changes of elements by species were statistically significant in all the organs, and, in general, the highest concentrations were observed in leaves. The study results revealed that the concentrations of these elements might significantly vary between the organs in the same species, which varies significantly by the species.

Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne pathogen frequently isolated from food that causes different public health problems. In recent years, antibiotic resistance of pathogens has become an important problem affecting human health. For this reason, it is crucial to develop an alternative to antibiotics. Thus, the antibacterial effects of herbal extracts and essential oils are frequently investigated. In this article, the antibacterial activity of extracts obtained from 16 different herbs using ethanol, chloroform, acetone, and distilled water was evaluated against L. monocytogenes strains. The extract showing the highest antibacterial effect against L. monocytogenes was St. John’s Wort extracted in ethanol (31.72 ±0.52 mm). In addition, Myrtus leaf extracted in ethanol (27.2 ±0.52 mm) and St. John’s Wort extracted in acetone (25.6 ±0.52 mm) showed a high antibacterial effect against L. monocytogenes compared to other extracts. In the study, the solvent ethanol in which St. John’s Wort and Myrtus leaf were extracted showed the highest antibacterial activity. In contrast, the solvent that rosemary extract showed the highest antibacterial effect was acetone. However, the most antibacterial herb extracted in distilled water was peppermint (7.03 ±0.52 mm). The extracts of marjoram and yarrow did not show any antibacterial effect in any solvent used in the study. In conclusion, more studies are needed to determine the antibacterial effects of herbal extracts against pathogens in foods and their use.

Bovine and caprine mastitis is a dreadful bacterial disease that drastically lowers milk production, and presently it is spreading as an endemic pathogen throughout the world, including Bangladesh. Moreover, mastitis is the main impediment to Bangladesh’s tremendously rising milk-related industry and general livestock economy. Therefore, the aim of this study is to demonstrate the overall prevalence of clinical and sub-clinical mastitis in both dairy cows and goats. It is the foremost meta-analysis study regarding mastitis prevalence in Bangladesh and the study gathered the articles from the electronic database on the topic bovine and caprine mastitis published between January 2005 and November 2020. Finally, 33 articles were selected for estimating the overall prevalence rate of mastitis in ruminant (cow and goat) via random effect model estimation. Analyzing the result, the study found 43.0% (95% Cl: 37.0 - 50.0%) and 31.0% (95% Cl: 15.0 - 47.0%) prevalence rate in dairy cattle and goat. Statistically, the occurrence rate in Bangladesh is significantly higher than other countries. Although many studies showed the seroprevalence across different districts, this study demonstrates the aggregate incidence rates across Bangladesh as a whole. This paper may also serve as a reference point for the implementation of any control strategy of mastitis in Bangladesh.

Royal jelly (RJ), is one of the important honey bee products and a functional food item in the regulation of diets and in the cosmetic industry. RJ has a potential towards various human disease treatments. The chemical content of RJ is influenced by some factors. In this study, the effect of the presence or absence of the queen on the amount of 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA) and soluble protein in RJ is determined. For this reason, colonies were prepared as queenless, queenright and starter-finisher. RJ yields in colonies queenless, queenright and starter-finisher were determined as 15.2 ± 0.89 g, 12.0 ± 0.90 g and 9.6 ± 0.72 g, respectively. Group queenless was different from the other two groups. While 10-HDA values of the groups were similar (queenless, queenright and starter-finisher, respectively; 2.0 ± 0.06%, 2.1 ± 0.06% and 2.0 ± 0.05%), the soluble protein amounts of the groups (queenless, queenright and starter-finisher, respectively, 9.65 ± 0.179%, 7.68 ± 0.184%, 7.50 ± 0.203%) were found different and significant from each other. As a result, the RJ production colony queenless or queenright affected the amount of soluble protein. The worker bees of queenless colonies secreted RJ containing more soluble protein.
