Ecological Impact Assessment in Urban Development Areas: The Case of Niğde Orhan Batı and Tevfik Streets
2020
Nuriye Ebru Yıldız | Gülden Sandal Erzurumlu
While the cities formed with their natural and cultural values were shaped to the extent allowed by the natural climate conditions in the historical process, the pressures on the traditional character of the cities and natural landscapes have increased as a result of the technological developments and changes that have arisen with the increasing human activities along with the population increase. Urban development areas have emerged around the traditional settlements, resulting in the destruction of natural water resources, pasture, agriculture and forest areas. As a result, this negative impact on the local economy, as well as the ecological balance in the natural landscape surrounding the cities, negatively affects the regional and national economy at the upper scale. Within the scope of the research, NDVI analysis was carried out to determine the effect of urban development areas in the Orhan Batı and Tevfik Çalın Streets connecting the Niğde Central and Bor districts to the green areas and the change in the land cover was created by spatial maps. In addition to NDVI analysis, water permeability of soil and rock structure was determined in order to determine the effect of urban development areas on Groundwater recharging and the effect of Groundwater recharging status and urban development areas on Groundwater recharging with the weighted method of registration were determined and suggestions have been developed in order not to adversely affect natural landscape areas.

2020
Nuriye Ebru Yıldız | Şükran Şahin
The aim of the study was to evaluate the ecological impact of groundwater recharging in the urban development area in the north of Kastamonu city. In this respect, the urban development area was examined in terms of water permeability, which is one of the functions of the landscape, and the ecological impact assessment was carried out in order to determine the level of change in groundwater recharging and land cover before and after urban development. With the methods used within the scope of the study, negative changes in groundwater and water retention capacity can be revealed as a result of other interventions on urbanization and landscape. On the other hand, it is important that landscape plans, where the ecological processes expressed as landscape function, including groundwater recharging and surface runoff potential, are considered as the priority action area of the multi-layered spatial planning process, rather than the investigation of the mentioned negativities after planning and/or implementation.

2020
Nurgül Ergin | Mehmet Demir Kaya
This study was aimed to determine the responses of some sunflower hybrids to drought and low temperature stresses during germination and seedling development period. Sunflower hybrids of Sanbro MR, 63LE113, 64LL62 and Meteor were used in the study. Germination percentage, mean germination time, root and shoot length, root / shoot ratio, seedling fresh and dry weight of the sunflower hybrids were investigated at two temperatures (low 15°C and optimum 25°C) and drought stresses (distilled water, -1.5, -3.0, -4.5 and -6.0 bar) induced by polyethylene glycol 6000. The results of the research showed that there were significant differences among the sunflower hybrids in terms of the investigated characteristics. Increased drought stresses led to decreasing germination percentage, root and shoot length, seedling fresh weight, but caused a prolonged germination time and increased seedling dry weight. No significant change was observed in the germination and seedling development of the sunflower up to drought of -3,0 bar. The root / shoot ratio of sunflower hybrids increased at 15°C. The Sanbro MR had the fastest and highest germination along with the highest seedling fresh and dry weight at low temperature and higher drought stresses. It was concluded that sunflower hybrid Sanbro MR gave better performance under drought and low temperature conditions than the other hybrids.

Just because of geographical spread, citrus species generally grow in places sensitive to salinity. Testing methods have a significant role in breeding and cultivar development programs. This study was conducted to investigate in vitro salt response of Cleopatra mandarin (Citrus reshni Tan.), sour orange (Citrus aurantium L.), rough lemon (Citrus jambhiri Lush.), Volkamer lemon (Citrus volkameriana Tan & Pasq.), Carrizo citrange (Poncirus trifoliata L. Raf. X Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck) and trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata Raf.) rootstocks at different NaCl concentrations. Seeds were germinated in MS medium with 0, 45, 90 and 135 mM NaCl concentrations. In general, the greatest germination rates in all salt concentrations in Volkamer lemon and sour orange rootstocks and the lowest values were observed in rough lemon and trifoliate orange rootstocks. Present findings revealed that in vitro conditions could reliably be used in salt tolerance tests of citrus rootstocks.

2020
Orhun Soydan
In the study, the temporal change analysis of Akkaya Reservoir in Niğde was made. The Reservoir was established in 1964. The change of reservoir between 1999, 2009 and 2019 was analyzed using remote sensing method. Satellite images used in the study belong to August (1999, 2009, 2019). MNDWI (Modified Normalized Difference Water Index) analysis was used. With the results of this analysis; the amount of water surfaces in the reservoir basin was calculated by years. After this analysis, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) analysis was used and land cover types were determined by CORINE. It has been determined that the water surface map of 2009 covers a larger area compared to other years. When only the area where the reservoir is located is evaluated by the polynomial equation (2nd degree), there may be a decrease of approximately 26% in the reservoir water surface area within 15 years. As a result of the study, it has been determined that Landsat satellite data can be used to determine the water surface amounts. If study in smaller areas will be done, use the lower resolution satellite images are suggested. In this study, MNDWI analysis was found more successful than NDVI analysis to find water surface area. Multi-band satellite images provide important qualitative information in evaluating the functions used in ecosystem-based planning studies.

2020
Uğur Yavuz | Yusuf Bozkurt
Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is one of the important antioxidants, which naturally present in seminal plasma of fish. On the other hand, whether its effect may improve sperm quality following cryopreservation process still remains its uncertainty. Thus, the present study aimed to analyse the effect of different extenders supplemented with different ascorbic acid concentrations on post-thaw motility and fertility of frozen-thawed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) sperm. Selected sperm samples were pooled and diluted at 1:3 ratios with two different extenders (E) composing such as (E-1) 300 mM glucose, 10% egg yolk and 10% DMSO and (E-2) 0.6 mM sucrose and 10% DMSO. Each extender was supplemented with vitamin C at 1, 5 and 10 mM concentrations. Following dilution, the sperm was loaded into 0.25 ml straws and frozen in liquid nitrogen vapour. The straws were then plunged into liquid nitrogen for storage. Fertilization was carried out using the dry fertilization technique. Highest post-thaw motility (50±5.77) and fertilization (56±1.00) results were obtained with the extender-1 (E-1) containing 10% DMSO concentration. In conclusion, the present study indicated that addition of ascorbic acid to the extenders improved rainbow trout sperm motility resulting higher fertilization of the eggs.

2020
Mahmut Mutlu | Alpönder Yıldız
This study was carried out to determine the influence of different levels of alfalfa meal and the addition of enzyme on performance, carcass and intestinal parameters in growing quails. Japanese quails (n=240), 1 days of age, were divided into 6 dietary treatment groups and the experiment lasted for 5 weeks. In each experiment group there were 4 replicates, and in each replicates there were 10 chicks. Six diets, arranged a factorial design with three alfalfa meal levels (0, 2.5 and 5.0 %) and two levels of added enzyme (0.0 and 1.0 g/kg) were used. The treatments did not effect on the body weight, feed intake and feed conversion ratio. However, relative liver, leg+back, intestine weights and crypt depth were significantly increased, and relative heart and breast weights and villus width decreased by dietary alfalfa meal levels. The addition of enzyme to diets containing alfalfa meal did not affect the performance and carcass parameters, but reduced the intestinal histomorphology parameters in quails. According to the results obtained from the experiment, it can be said that the use of alfalfa meal in growing quail diets did not affect the performance, but the use of alfalfa meal at the level of 2.5% in the diet promotes intestinal development.
