The great solar radiation in the Brazilian semiarid region, combined with an adequate irrigation management, favors fruit production and quality of crops that were adapted to this region. The objective of this work was to evaluate the fruit quality of two apple cultivars grown in the Sub-Mid São Francisco River Valley under different irrigation water depths. A complete randomized block experimental design in a split -plot arrangement with five replications was used. The plots consisted of four irrigation water depths (ID) (60, 80, 100 and 120% of the reference evapotranspiration - ETo), the subplots consisted of two apple cultivars (C) (Julieta and Princesa) and the sub-subplots consisted of fruit positions in the tree canopies (FP) (east and west sides). The soluble solids content (SS), titratable acidity (TA), SS/TA ratio, pulp firmness (PF) and fresh weight (FW) of the fruits were evaluated. The factors evaluated showed no triple interaction between the evaluated factors, however, the SS and TA were significantly affected by them; the interaction between ID and C significantly affected the PF; the interaction between ID and FP significantly affected the PF, SS/TA ratio and FW; and the interaction between C and FP significantly affected the SS/TA ratio. The increase in water depth increased the fruit size of both cultivars, without compromising the post-harvest quality. The cultivar Princesa presented the best results regarding SS, TA, PF and FW, however, both cultivars had organoleptic characteristics within the recommended standards for commercialization. The fruits harvested on the west side presented better post-harvest quality.

The fruits harvested on the west side presented better post-harvest quality. | RESUMO A elevada radiação associada ao manejo adequado da irrigação no semiárido brasileiro favorece o aumento da produção e a qualidade dos frutos de culturas adaptadas a região. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade dos frutos de duas variedades de maçãs cultivadas na região do Vale Submédio do Rio São Francisco sobre diferentes lâminas de irrigação. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, com parcelas subsubdivididas, com cinco repetições, sendo as parcelas principais quatro lâminas de irrigação (60; 80; 100; e 120 % da evapotranspiração de referência - ETo), as subparcelas duas cultivares de maçã (Julieta e Princesa) e as subsubparcelas as posições da copa da planta (leste e oeste). Avaliou-se o teor de sólidos solúveis (SS), a acidez titulável (AT), a relação entre SS/AT, a firmeza de polpa (FP) e a massa de matéria fresca do fruto (MMFF). Não se observou interação tripla entre os fatores avaliados, mas houve um efeito significativo das características SS e AT, da interação entre lâminas e cultivares para FP, da interação entre lâminas e posição para FP, razão de SS/AT e MMFF e da interação entre cultivares e posição para relação SS/AT. O aumento da irrigação promoveu aumento do tamanho dos frutos, das duas cultivares, sem comprometer a qualidade pós-colheita. A cultivar Princesa apresentou os melhores resultados quanto o SS, AT, FP e MMFF, contudo ambas as cultivares apresentaram características organolépticas dentro do recomendado para comercialização. Os frutos colhidos do lado oeste apresentaram melhor qualidade pós-colheita.

The use of elicitors in plants for disease control is demonstrated by the accumulation of phytoalexins. Among these elicitors, metabolic products from fungi have been shown to be effective in the activation of mechanisms of induced resistance. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of filtrates from the saprobic fungi Curvularia inaequalis, Pseudobotrytis terrestris, Memnoniella echinata and Curvularia eragrostidis in inducing phaseolin, glyceolin and deoxyanthocyanidins. For this, fungal mycelial disks were liquid-subcultured in potato dextrose (BD) media and maintained in BOD at 25 °C and 12 h of light and darkness. After 20 days, the cultures were filtered and, the filtrates were used in the experiments. Phaseolin was measured in etiolated hypocotyls of bean. For glyceolin evaluation, cotyledons of soybean were used. The deoxyanthocyanidin accumulation was evaluated in etiolated mesocotyls of sorghum. The results were subjected to analysis of variance and compared by regression tests (p < 0.05). The filtrates of the saprobic fungi C. eragrostidis, C. inaequalis, P. terrestris and M. echinata promoted 9, 8, 9 and 7% greater increases in the concentration of phaseolin accumulations, respectively. The glyceolin accumulation varied with the concentration of C. eragrostidis, C. inaequalis and P. terrestris by adjusting the behavior to a cubic model. The deoxyanthocyanidin accumulation increased with concentration, while the filtrates of M. echinata and C. eragrostidis promoted 2 to 3 times more increases than the application of water. The filtrates of P. terrestris, C. eragrostidis, C. inaequalis and M. echinata induced accumulations of phytoalexins in soybean, beans and sorghum.

RESUMO O uso de elicitores em plantas para o controle de doenças tem demonstrado ação no acúmulo de fitoalexinas. Dentre estes, produtos do metabolismo de fungos apresentam eficiência na ativação de mecanismos de resistência induzida das plantas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de filtrados dos fungos sapróbios Curvularia inaequalis, Pseudobitritis terrestris, Memnomiella echinata e Curvularia eragrostidis na indução de faseolina, gliceolina e deoxiantocianidinas. Para isso, discos de micélio dos fungos foram repicados em meio líquido BD (batata e dextrose) e mantidos em B.O.D. a 25 ºC, 12h luz/escuro. Após 20 dias foi realizada filtragem e utilizado os filtrados nos experimentos. A faseolina foi determinada em hipocótilos estiolados de feijão. Para avaliação da gliceolina, foram utilizados cotilédones de plântulas de soja. O acúmulo de deoxiantocianidinas foi avaliado em mesocótilos estiolados de sorgo. Os Resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância e comparados pelo teste de regressão (p<0,05). Os filtrados dos fungos sapróbios C. erogrostis, C. inaequalis, P. terrestris e M. echinata promoveram maior incremento no acúmulo de faseolina nas concentrações 9, 8, 9 e 7%, respecivamente. O acúmulo de gliceolina variou com as concentrações dos sapróbios C. erogrostis, C. inaequalis e P. terrestris, ajustando-se o comportamento ao modelo cúbico. O acúmulo de deoxiantocianidinas aumentou conforme a concentração, enquanto os filtrados de M. echinata e C. eragrostidis promoveram aumento de 2 e 3 vezes mais que a aplicação de água. A aplicação dos filtrados de P. terrestris, C. eragrostidis, C. inaequalis e M. echinata induziram o acúmulo de fitoalexinas em soja, feijão e sorgo. | ABSTRACT The use of elicitors in plants for disease control is demonstrated by the accumulation of phytoalexins. Aggregate formation and stability are related to soil quality, contributing significantly to the carbon storage and nutrient maintenance capacities of the soil. Soil aggregates are formed by two different process: physicogenic, related to moistening and drying cycles and input of organic matter; and biogenic, related to the action of macrofauna organisms and roots. The objective this work was to classify aggregates according to their formation process, quantify and compare organic carbon contents in humic substances and assess the stability of aggregates formed by different processes, in areas with different coverage in the Mid Paraiba Valley, Pinheiral, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Aggregated soil samples were collected at a depth of 0-10 cm, in a Cambisol (Cambissolo Háplico Tb Distrófico) under four plant covers: secondary forest in advanced (SFAS), medium (SFMS) and initial (SFIS) successional stages and managed mixed pasture (MMP). Aggregates were classified and identified into three morphological classes (physicogenic, biogenic and intermediate). The variables evaluated were mean weight diameter (MWD) and geometric mean diameter (GMD) of aggregates, chemical fractions of organic matter, total organic carbon (TOC) and humic substances: humin (C-HUM) humic acid (C-FAH) and fulvic acid (C-FAF). Biogenic aggregates were found in smaller quantities and showed higher TOC, C-HUM and C-FAH, compared to intermediate and physicogenic aggregates. Thus, biogenic aggregates have potential to be used as soil quality indicators for structured environments, which are able to maintain its intrinsic formation processes.

Os agregados do solo são formados por duas vias distintas: a fisiogênica, relacionada a ciclos de umedecimento e/ou secagem e adição de matéria orgânica e a biogênica associada à ação dos organismos da macrofauna e de raízes. Neste estudo, objetivou-se separar os agregados conforme a via de formação e, posteriormente, quantificar e comparar os teores de carbono orgânico das substâncias húmicas e a estabilidade de agregados formados por diferentes vias e coberturas vegetais, na região do Médio Vale do Paraiba Fluminense, Pinheiral (RJ). Foram coletadas amostras indeformadas de solo na profundidade de 0-10 cm, em um Cambissolo Háplico Tb Distrófico, sob quatro coberturas vegetais: floresta secundária em diferentes estádios sucessionais - avançado (FSEA); médio (FSEM); inicial (FSEI) e uma área de pasto misto manejado (PMM). Os agregados foram separados e identificados em três classes morfológicas (fisiogênica, biogênica e intermediária). Posteriormente, foram determinados o diâmetro médio ponderado (DMP) e geométrico (DMG) dos agregados, fracionamento químico da matéria orgânica e quantificação dos teores de carbono orgânico total (COT) e das substâncias húmicas: humina (C-HUM), ácido húmico (C-FAH) e ácido fúlvico (C-FAF). Os agregados biogênicos foram encontrados em menor quantidade e apresentaram maiores teores de COT, C-HUM, C-FAH em comparação aos agregados intermediários e fisiogênicos. Dessa forma, os agregados biogênicos têm potencial para serem enquadrados como indicadores de qualidade do solo, associados a ambientes mais estruturados, capazes de manter os processos intrínsecos a sua formação.

Potassium (K) is an essential nutrient for upland rice growth, but little information on the effects of K on root growth and nutrient uptake capacity of upland rice is found. Therefore, an experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions to evaluate the influence of soil K levels on root growth and nutrient uptake of four upland rice cultivars. A completely randomized experimental design, in a 4x4 factorial scheme (4 levels of K: 20, 40, 80, and 160 mg dm-3; 4 cultivars: Caiapó, BRS-Primavera, IAC-202, and Maravilha) was used, with four replications. Based on regression equations, the highest values of root length density would be found with 136 mg dm-3 of K. The root diameter and dry matter, shoot dry matter and shoot K concentration increased linearly with the increasing K rates. The shoot K concentration of the upland rice cultivars did not differ. The increased level of K in the soil reduced the shoot Ca concentration of intermediate and modern cultivars, and the shoot Mg concentration of all cultivars. The potassium fertilization increased the plant growth, but the magnitude of this effect varied according to the cultivar..

RESUMO O potássio (K) é um nutriente essencial para o crescimento do arroz, no entanto existem poucas informações sobre os efeitos do K no crescimento radicular e na capacidade de absorção de nutrientes por diferentes cultivares de arroz de terras altas. Um experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação para avaliar a influência de diferentes níveis de K no solo no crescimento radicular e absorção de nutrientes de quatro cultivares de arroz de terras altas. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4x4, (4 níveis de K: 20, 40, 80 e 160 mg dm-3; 4 cultivares: Caiapó, BRS-Primavera, IAC-202 e Maravilha), com quatro repetições. Com base nas equações de regressão, o maior valor para comprimento radicular seria obtido com aplicação de 136 mg dm-3 de K. O diâmetro e a matéria seca radicular, a concentração de K e a biomassa da parte aérea aumentaram linearmente com o aumento das doses de K, porém a concentração de K na parte aérea não diferiu entre as cultivares de arroz. O aumento do nível de K no solo reduziu a concentração Ca na parte aérea das cultivares dos grupos intermediário e moderno, mas a concentração de Mg reduziu em todas as cultivares. This study aimed to evaluate the use of starch degradation index (SDI) in the diagnosis of areas of impact injuries in 'Tommy Atkins' mango, in different maturation stages. The experiment layout was a fully randomized factorial design (5 x 2), represented by five maturation stages and two handlings, with and without impact, with four replicates. SDI was determined through a subjective scale of scores indicating mango pulp darkened areas by reaction with iodine-potassium iodide solution. Subsequently, these scores were correlated with physicochemical quality variables. The results showed no influence of impact on fruit quality, in any of the studied maturation stages. Moreover, soluble solid contents increased throughout maturation stages, regardless of whether the fruits suffered impact or not. As a result, SDI is unsuitable to indicate fruit impact injury. However, there is a good correlation between SDI and pulp color, vitamin C, pH, titratable acidity, soluble solids, SS/ TA ratio and non-reducing sugars.

The experiment layout was a fully randomized factorial design (5 x 2), represented by five maturation stages and two handlings, with and without impact, with four replicates. SDI was determined through a subjective scale of scores indicating mango pulp darkened areas by reaction with iodine-potassium iodide solution. Subsequently, these scores were correlated with physicochemical quality variables. The results showed no influence of impact on fruit quality, in any of the studied maturation stages. Moreover, soluble solid contents increased throughout maturation stages, regardless of whether the fruits suffered impact or not. As a result, SDI is unsuitable to indicate fruit impact injury. However, there is a good correlation between SDI and pulp color, vitamin C, pH, titratable acidity, soluble solids, SS/ TA ratio and non-reducing sugars. | RESUMO O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o índice de degradação de amido (IDA) na diagnose de áreas injurias por impacto na manga Tommy Atkins‘, em diferentes estádios de maturação. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente ao acaso (DIC) em esquema fatorial (5 x 2), representado por cinco estádios de maturação e duas condições de manuseio, com e sem impacto, com quatro repetições. O índice de degradação de amido foi estabelecido através de escala subjetiva de notas indicativas de proporções da área da polpa da manga escurecida em função da reação com solução de iodo-iodeto de potássio e posteriormente, estas notas foram correlacionadas com variáveis físico-químicas de qualidade. O impacto não influenciou na qualidade dos frutos, em nenhum dos estádios de maturação estudado, os sólidos solúveis aumentaram com o avanço dos estádios de maturação da manga, independentemente se os frutos sofreram impacto. O índice de degradação de amido não é adequado para ser utilizado como um indicativo de frutos com injúria por impacto. Há uma boa correlação do índice de degradação de amido com a cor da polpa, vitamina C, pH, acidez titulável, sólidos solúveis, relação SS/AT e açúcares não redutores.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the physicochemical and microbiological characteristics, antioxidant capacity and phenolic compounds of organic cherry tomatoes grown under fertigation with organic dairy cattle wastewater (DCW) with different nitrogen rates. Tomato plants, grown in an agroecological farm in Seropédica, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were subjected to four different nitrogen rates (T1=0, T2=50, T3=100 and T4=150% of N). The moisture, lipids, ashes, protein and total fiber contents, soluble solids (ºBrix), reducing and total sugars (%), pH and total titratable acidity (mg NaOH per 100 g) were evaluated. The total phenolic content (TPC) and the antioxidant capacity was determined by the DPPH and FRAP methods. The different nitrogen rates (%N) affected the pH, protein and soluble solids contents. The increase in %N increased the antioxidant capacities, according to the DPPH assay, and TPC. On the other hand, the tomatoes under fertigation with the highest %N presented lower antioxidant capacities according to the FRAP assay. The fertigation did not affect the microbiological characteristics of the tomatoes, which presented fecal coliforms count <3 NMP g-1 and absence of Salmonella in 25 g.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a capacidade antioxidante e a qualidade fisicoquímica e microbiológica de tomates cereja orgânicos cultivados com diferentes teores de nitrogênio (%N) utilizando águas residuárias da bovinocultura. As amostras de tomate foram obtidas na Fazendinha Agroecológica (SIPA - Seropédica, RJ) e submetidas a quatro diferentes tratamentos de acordo com os níveis de nitrogênio (T1=0, T2=50, T3=100 e T4=150 %N). Foram determinadas a umidade, teores de cinzas, lipídeos, proteínas e fibras totais. Além do pH, sólidos solúveis (ºBrix), açúcares totais e redutores (%); e acidez titulável (mg de NaOH por 100 g). O teor de compostos fenólicos e a capacidade antioxidante das amostras (DPPH e FRAP) foram avaliadas. Os diferentes %N afetaram o pH e o conteúdo de proteínas e sólidos solúveis totais dos tomates. Elevados teores de nitrogênio forneceram amostras com maiores capacidades antioxidantes (método DPPH) e compostos fenólicos. Em contrapartida, obtiveram-se as menores capacidades antioxidantes segundo o método FRAP nas amostras fertirrigadas com altos teores de nitrogênio. The proper soil use and management are essential for a sustainable production, thus the pursuit for systems that minimize damages to the environment and improve soil fertility is continuous. The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in soil fertility by the use and management of an Oxisol (Latossolo Vermelho - amarelo, SiBCS) in the Amazon biome. The soil uses and management systems evaluated were native forest, native pasture, minimum tillage system and conventional tillage system. The chemical atributes of the soil layers 0.00 - 0.10, 0.10 - 0.20, 0.20 - 0.30 and 0.30 - 0.40 m were evaluated. The soil pH (CaCl 2 ) and the contents of organic matter, available phosphorus and exchangeable potassium, calcium, magnesium and aluminum were evaluated and the saturation by Al, effective cation exchange capacity and soil potential were determined. The highest pH values were found in the native pasture area, and the highest exchangeable aluminum contents were found in the layers 0.00 - 0.10 and 0.10 - 0.20 m of the conventional tillage system. The highest phosphorus availability was found in the layer 0.00 - 0.10 m of the native forest area. The highest potassium availability was found in the minimum tillage system. The lowest calcium and magnesium values were found in the layers 0.00 - 0.10 and 0.10 - 0.20 m of the conventional tillage system. The highest soil organic matter content was found in the layer 0.00 - 0.10 m of the native forest area. The nutrient availability for plants decreases in soils managed using the conventional tillage system. Soil uses and management systems of little soil disturbance are recommended to minimize environmental degradation in the Amazon biome.

Objetivou-se avaliar as alterações nos atributos de fertilidade em decorrência do uso e manejo em Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo (LVA) na Amazônia. Os seguintes sistemas de uso e manejo do solo num LVA foram avaliados: floresta nativa, pastagem nativa e áreas preparadas por sistema de cultivo mínimo e cultivo convencional. As avaliações dos atributos químicos do solo foram realizadas nas profundidades de 0 -0,10, 0,10-0,20, 0,20-0,30 e 0,30-0,40 m. Foram avaliados o pH do solo (CaCl2), o teor de matéria orgânica do solo, os teores de fósforo disponível e potássio trocável, cálcio, magnésio e alumino trocáveis, sendo ainda determinados a saturação por Al, a capacidade de troca catiônica efetiva e potencial do solo. Os valores de pH mais elevados foram verificados no sistema de pastagem nativa e os maiores teores de alumínio trocável nas profundidades de 0-0,10 e 0,10-0,20 m foram verificadas no sistema de cultivo convencional. O sistema de floresta nativa apresentou a maior disponibilidade de fósforo na profundidade de 0-0,10 m. As maiores disponibilidades de potássio foram verificadas no sistema de cultivo mínimo. Os menores valores de cálcio e magnésio nas profundidades de 0-0,10 e 0,10-0,20 m ocorreram no sistema de cultivo convencional. O sistema de floresta nativa apresentou o maior teor de matéria orgânica do solo na profundidade de 0-0,10 m. A disponibilidade de nutrientes para as plantas é reduzida em solos manejados em sistema de plantio convencional. Os sistemas de uso e manejo de menor revolvimento do solo são indicados para minimizar a degradação ambiental na Amazônia.

The goosegrass ( Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn) is an annual plant that has a low - level resistance to glyphosate (LLRG), resulting in control failure in genetically modified soybean crops for resistance to this herbicide. Alleles related to resistance may cause changes in the plant biotype, such as inferior competitive ability. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluated the competitive ability of soybean crops and susceptible and resistant (LLRG) goosegrass biotypes. Replacement series experiments were conducted with soybean crops and goosegrass biotypes. The ratios of soybean to susceptible or resistant (LLRG) goosegrass plants were 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 and 0:100, with a total population of 481 plants m - 2 . The leaf area, plant height and shoot dry weight were evaluated at 40 days after emergence of the soybean crops and weeds. The soybean crop had superior competitive ability to the susceptible and resistant (LLRG) goosegrass biotypes. The soybean crop showed similar competitive ability in both competitions, either with the susceptible or resistant (LLRG) goosegrass biotypes. The intraspecific competition was more harmful to the soybean crop, while the interspecific competition caused greater damage to the goosegrass biotypes competing with the soybean crop

RESUMO O capim pé-de-galinha (Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn) é uma planta anual, que apresenta resistência de nível baixo (RNB) ao herbicida glifosato o que acarreta em falhas de controle em lavouras de soja geneticamente modificadas para resistência ao herbicida. Os alelos relacionados com a resistência podem acarretar em custos de adaptação ao biótipo, conferindo menor habilidade competitiva. Diante disso, o objetivo da pesquisa foi comparar a habilidade competitiva da cultura da soja com os biótipos de capim pé -de-galinha suscetível ou com RNB. Para isso, foram conduzidos experimentos em série de substituição entre a cultura da soja e os biótipos de capim pé-de-galinha. As proporções entre plantas de soja e capim pé-de-galinha suscetível ou com RNB foram de 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 e 0:100, com população total de 481 plantas m -2. Avaliaram-se a área foliar (AF), estatura de planta (EST) e a massa da matéria seca da parte aérea (MMSPA), aos 40 DAE da cultura da soja e da planta daninha. A cultura da soja tem habilidade competitiva superior aos biótipos de capim pé-de-galinha suscetível ou com RNB. A habilidade competitiva da soja não foi diferencial frente à competição com os biótipos de capim pé-de-galinha suscetível ou com RNB. A competição intraespecífica para a cultura da soja e a competição interespecífica para os biótipos de capim pé-de-galinha, causam maiores danos aos competidores. | ABSTRACT The goosegrass (Eleusine indica (L.) Weed interference is a factor that limits the productivity of beans and, among these, hairy beggarticks is one of the main species competing with the crop for environmental resources. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the competitive ability of black bean cultivars (BRS Campeiro, IPR Uirapuru, SCS204 Predileto and BRS Supremo) in the presence of a biotype of hairy beggarticks. The experimental design is a completely randomized block with four replications. Treatments were arranged in a replacement series, consisting of a proportion of the crop and the hairy beggarticks: 100:0; 75:25; 50:50: 24:75, and 0:100, which corresponds to 40:0, 30:10, 20:20, 10:30, and 0:40 plant pots1. We accomplished competitive analysis through diagrams applied to the replacement series, as well as using relative competitive indices. The leaf area and shoot dry mass were evaluated at 40 days after emergence of the species. There was competition between bean cultivars and hairy beggarticks for the same environmental resources, causing negative interference in the growth of the species, independent of the proportion of plants. Bean cultivars had a lower relative loss by reducing the morphological variables of the hairy beggarticks, thereby demonstrating superiority in its competitive ability in relation to the weed. Interspecific competition is less damaging than intraspecific competition for both species.

RESUMO A interferência causada pelas plantas daninhas é um dos fatores que limitam a produtividade do feijoeiro e dentre essas destaca-se o picão-preto como uma das principais espécies que competem com a cultura pelos recursos do meio. Assim sendo, objetivou-se com este trabalho, avaliar a habilidade competitiva de cultivares de feijão do tipo preto (BRS Campeiro, IPR Uirapuru, SCS204 Predileto e BRS Supremo) na presença de biótipo de picão-preto. O delineamento utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram arranjados em série substitutiva e constituíram-se de proporções da cultura e de picão-preto: 100:0; 75:25; 50:50: 24:75 e 0:100, o que corresponde a 40:0, 30:10, 20:20, 10:30 e 0:40 plantas vaso-1. A análise da competitividade foi efetuada por meio de diagramas aplicados a experimentos substitutivos, mais uso de índices de competitividade relativa. Avaliou-se a área foliar e a massa seca da parte aérea aos 40 dias após a emergência das espécies. Houve competição pelos mesmos recursos do meio entre as cultivares de feijão e o picão-preto, ocasionando interferência negativa no crescimento das espécies, independentemente da proporção de plantas. As cultivares de feijão apresentaram menor perda relativa ao reduzirem as variáveis morfológicas do picão-preto e demonstram possuir superioridade na habilidade competitiva em relação à planta daninha. ABSTRACT Among the factors negatively impacting guava (Psidium guajava) crop in Brazil, one of the most important is the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne enterolobii, which may cause considerable yield losses and even the cessation of guava cultivation in some areas. In addition to affecting guava, the pathogen has been reported as a parasite in various other crops, among them both oleraceous and ornamental crops, as well as in spontaneous vegetation. The aim of this study was to verify the occurrence of M. enterolobii in plants collected in guava orchards in different counties of Ceará state, identified through electrophoresis with the isoenzyme esterase, and to observe its infecting behavior into Meloidogyne differentiating plants. Fifty root samples from guava, tasselflower (Emilia fosbergii), and jurubeba (Solanum paniculatum), were collected in 13 counties from eight micro-regions in the state of Ceará. In all analyzed samples, only esterase phenotype M2 (Rm: 0.6; 0.9), characteristic of M. enterolobii, was detected, showing that the nematode is widespread in orchards throughout the state, where is affecting these fruit tree, and that it is also able to parasitizing plants of the spontaneous vegetation. Based on the results, this nematode currently constitutes a serious threat to guava plantations in Ceará, and effective control mechanisms are crucial to prevent the spread of this pathogen to other, still unaffected, areas. | RESUMO Dentre os problemas que afetam a cultura da goiabeira (Psidium guajava) no Brasil, destaca-se o nematoide das galhas Meloidogyne enterolobii, o qual pode provocar consideráveis perdas na produção e tornar inviáveis áreas para o cultivo da fruteira. Além da goiabeira, o patógeno já foi relatado parasitando diversas outras culturas dentre olerícolas, ornamentais, como também em plantas de vegetação espontânea. Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, verificar a dispersão de M. enterolobii em plantas coletadas em pomares de goiabeiras em diferentes municípios do Ceará, empregando na identificação a técnica da eletroforese com a isoenzima esterase e observar o comportamento do patógeno em espécies diferenciadoras de Meloidogyne. Analisaram-se aproximadamente 50 amostras de raízes obtidas de goiabeiras, de falsa serralha (Emilia fosbergii) e de jurubeba (Solanum paniculatum) coletadas em 13 municípios pertencentes a oito microrregiões do estado. Em todas as amostras analisadas detectou-se apenas o fenótipo de esterase M2 (Rm: 0,6; 0,9) característico de M. enterolobii, indicando que o nematoide está disseminado no estado afetando a fruteira e que pode permanecer na área parasitando plantas da vegetação espontânea. Com as informações obtidas, verificou-se que este nematoide constitui, atualmente, uma séria ameaça aos cultivos da goiabeira no Ceará e que práticas efetivas de controle são requeridas para evitar a dispersão desse patógeno em áreas ainda isentas do fitoparasita.
