Seventy-one percent of the earth surfaces is covered by oceans. Water therefore is an important habitat for microorganisms and the other living beings. A consistent microbial biodiversity is present in water from phototrophs to chemioorganotrophs. The complex relationships between different microorganisms and the environment are often modified by organic, chemical and physic contaminations. The input of organic material can determine pathogenic pollution. The presence of pathogens has to be monitored to eliminate serious problems for animal and human health. Water, in fact, can be a vehicle direct (drinking water) or indirect (irrigation water) for microbial pathogens | Il 71% della superficie terrestre è costituito dagli oceani. L'acqua pertanto è un importante ambiente per i microrganismi, oltre che per tutti gli altri esseri viventi. Una grande varietà di tipi microbici colonizzano l'habitat acquatico, dai fototrofi ai chemiorganotrofi. Le dinamiche che si creano fra i diversi componenti microbici e l'ambiente sono spesso alterate da contaminazioni organiche, chimiche e fisiche. L'immissione di materiale organico può anche essere fonte di inquinamento di microrganismi patogeni la cui presenza va monitorata al fine di evitare seri problemi alla salute umana e animale. Water organism such as zooplankton fish were used quite often as indicators for water quality in connection with chemically toxic substance in water. Several criteria could be used such as LC50, population index, and physiological phenomena. Bioassay that rely on this physiological phenomena was meant to measure the sublethal effect of the suspected toxic substance on the organisms. Further development of sublethal bioassay using filtering rate of Daphnia carinata (Cooley, 1977; McMahon, 1966) has taken place for a certain detergent. Yeasts cells tagged with P-32 were used as food for Daphnia carinata and the filtering rate was measured from the radioactivity of these crustaceans after a certain period of feeding time. Comparison was made between the feeding rate in the medium with and without the detergent and they appeared to be different.

La nappe plio-quaternaire de la zone synclinale d'Essaouira constitue l'une des ressources principales pour la population rurale et urbaine de cette région. Peu profonde, cette nappe connaît, d'une part, une exploitation intense par le biais de puits traditionnels et de puits équipés. Ces derniers sont destinés à alimenter la ville d'Essaouira dont ils assurent à peu près 47 pour cent du débit d'approvisionnement total. D'autre part, elle subit les contraintes de sécheresses très répandues au Maroc, dont la plus aiguë du siècle fût celle de 1995, avec des effets qui persistent jusqu'à nos jours malgré les deux cycles hydrologiques pluvieux de 1996 et 1997. Sur le plan qualitatif, les eaux de cette nappe sont menacées par la pollution due aux nitrates résultant des méthodes traditionnelles de puisage. Cette pollution est déjà ressentie au niveau de certains puits qui ont révélé des teneurs supérieures à la norme de 45 mg/l recommandée par l'OMS

La demarche d'evaluation de risque retenue par l'Organisation mondiale de la sante pour fixer les valeurs recommandees pour les eaux de boisson concernant les pesticides a ete ecartee, sur la base du principe de precaution, par le Conseil de l'Union europeenne. Cependant, avec la nouvelle directive 98/83/CE du 3 novembre 1998, les depassements de la valeur parametrique de 0,1 microg/l pourront etre geres dans le cadre du systeme derogatoire institue par son article 9. Enfin, l'avis du Conseil superieur d'hygiene publique de France jette les bases d'une gestion plus responsable des situations de depassement de la limite de qualite du parametre "Pesticides" et donne des indications sur la teneur du message que doit contenir l'information adressee au consommateur selon des situations bien definies
