Efficacy of different insecticides against Earias spp. on okra

Studies on the efficacy of different insecticides against the Earias spp. were carried out at Latif Farm, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, during 1989. Experiment was laid out in a randomized block design having five treatments and three replications. The Mirpurkhas-II variety of okra was sown on 15th June, 1989. Four insecticides i.e. Lorsban, Danitol, Hostathion and Thiodan were applied twice during the crop season. Observations were taken at one day before application and at one, three, seven and fourteen days after treatment (Post-treatment). Results showed that Hostathion was most effective against Earias spp. Hostathion caused maximum reduction percentage of infestation during all the intervals in both sprays, followed by Danitol, Lorsban and Thiodan.

Laboratory trials on the efficacy of bayluscide against Cerithidea snail

Efficacy of Bayluscide against Cerithidea cingulata, a snail known as the significant pest to a semi-intensive shrimp farms were performed under laboratory trial. Ten liter aquarium containing 5 cm dept of mud, 2 liters of 25 ppt seawater and 300 snails were set with 2 replications. Six levels of the compound's concentration ranging from 0 1 2 4 6 and 8 ppm were tested with each group of the snails. The retention time of these solutions were determined after 3 4 and 5 days of application using mudcrab (Scylla serrata) and blood cockle (Anadara granosa) as the indicators. The results showed that 65 percent of the snails were killed at 8 ppm of Bayluscide within 24 h and hundred percent of the tested snails were killed under this concentration at 48 h. Nor mortality was observed in mudcrab and blood cockle which were exposed to 5 days retentive Bayluscide for 120 h.
