Effect of pretreatment and age of explants on calloid initiation of coconut inflorescence

Browning of explants and calloid initiation on immature coconut inflorescences of various ages collected from Catigan X Baybay hybrid were studied. The effect of duration of exposure to liquid pre-culture media supplemented with varying levels of 2,4-D was also evaluated. Among the inflorescences tested, inflorescence no. 4 exhibited least browning and the highest incidence of calloid formation when pre-cultured in 2,4-D free liquid medium.
