Adequacy of iron intake in both the groups was only 20 per cent. Height, weight and triceps skinfold were below the standards whereas mid-upper arm circumference compared well with the standards. Pale conjunctiva and spoon shaped nails were observed in almost all the subjects. The average haemoglobin of the subjects was below the normal level indicating that all the subjects were anaemic.
