Assessment of alpha-amylase activity and viscosity of the grain extracts of triticale cultivars in respect to bioethanol production

In this study alpha-amylase activity and viscosity in water extracts from grain of 29 triticale cultivars were evaluated in order to select materials valuable for ethanol production. Alpha-amylase activity ranged from 0.05 to 1.66 U/ml and water extract viscosity - from 1.09 to 1.61 mPa x s. A selected group having both high alpha-amylase activity and low viscosity contained cultivars CHD 2688/98, Woltario, Disco, DED 1402, Kitaro and Magnat
