So far, the economic benefits of biodiversity have been undervalued. At international and national levels, appropriate incentives must be created to maintain biodiversity. For efficient protection and utilization of plant genetic resources, the formation of new institutions including markets (where markets are likely to be the most efficient institutions) requires due attention by agricultural economists.
