Application of Candida guilliermondii in commercial citrus waves for biocontrol of Penicillium on grapefruit. [Poster paper]
1994
McGuire, R.G. (United States Dept. of Agriculture, Miami (USA). Agricultural Research Service)
The efficacy of using C. guilliermondii to control Penicillium decay on grapefruits after hot-air treatment was investigated. Of various citrus fruit coatings tested, survival of the yeast was greatest in Nature Seal, a primarily methylcellulose emulsion. By applying the yeast to grapefruits, shelf life was increased from 5 to 11 days, or by 12-20 percent.
