Abstract: This booklet provides current information about iron metabolism and factors influencing iron balance, as well as recommended ironintakes. It is designed for professionals to clarify information regarding iron status during adolescence. Methods for identification of the state of iron nutriture are described and prevalence data are presented. Of major importance to health care providers are the recommendations and conclusions about iron nutriture in teenagers.
