Aflatoxin B1: simple procedures to reduce levels in tropical foods

Extract: Aflatoxin B1 levels in tropical food items were determined by a combined TLC fluorometric technique. Lipid and cereal foods and dried fish were high in aflatoxins. It was found that simple procedures such as wrapping, drying in the sun and the use of nontoxic detoxicants such as hypochlorite solutions reduced the level of aflatoxin.
