Mercury: an environmental and dietary hazard
1978
Magos, L.
Mercury exists in several forms, and each has different toxic qualities and thus different threshold limits. The discovery that methylmercury, one of the most toxic organomercury compounds, is synthesized in nature has widened the scope of research on mercury to include ecotoxicology. The global and biological cycle of mercury is schematically represented and explained. Factors affecting the toxicity of mercury, toxic manifestations, dose response curve, and threshold limit for methylmercury are discussed.
