The WIC program: a classic example of where individuals do make a difference
2001
Kennedy, E.
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is viewed as one of the most successful public health nutrition programs in the United States. Senator George McGovern, at the May 2000, National Nutrition Summit, referred to WIC as the perfect program. Despite the broad, bipartisan support the program has enjoyed, WIC has had an often stormy history. This paper chronicles the events that were instrumental in shaping the program as we now know it. The influence of key organizations and individuals in the WIC program are discussed.
