The objective of this study was to perform an experimental study to be compared under the pathological-anatomic, point of view, the manual and mechanical sutures in the main bronchus after left pneumonectomy in dogs. Eighteen adult mongrel, healthy dogs, both male and female, were utilized weighing from 9 to 27.5 kg. The dogs were submitted to a selective intubation and left thorax incision in the 5 th intercostal space where a pneumonectomy was performed. Were separated into 2 groups of 9 dogs according to the type of suture employed: Group A - a manual suture with polypropylene 5-O; Group B- a mechanical suture with a mechanical stapler, model TL-30. Each group was subdivided into 3 subgroups of 3 animals and a temporal postoperative study was established at 7, 15 and 36 days where an pathological-anatomic evaluation was made on the healing of the manual and mechanical sutures. During the histopathological evaluation, the intensity of inflammation, fibrosis, neoformed vessels, and the presence or absence of granulation tissue, foreign body reaction and necrosis were evaluated qualitatively and semi-quantitatively. The results found were analyzed statistically. Regarding the histopathologic analysis, foreign body reaction occured in the left bronchial stump in 88,9% of the dogs submitted to a manual suture and in none of the dogs submitted to a mechanical suture. There is still, significant statistical difference in the dogs in Groups A and B in relation to the intensity of the inflammation, the greatest intensity being in the dogs submitted to the manual suture. It is concluded that both types of sutures brought an adequate healing of the main left bronchial stump, although there was a greater intensity of inflammation and a greater occurence of foreign body reaction in the dogs submitted to the manual suture. | O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar um estudo experimental comparando-se sob o ponto de vista anatomopatológico as suturas manual e mecânica em brônquio principal após pneumonectomia esquerda em cães. Foram utilizados 18 cães, sadios, machos e fêmeas, adultos, sem raça definida, pesando entre 9 e 27,5 kg. Foram separados em 2 grupos de 9 cães, de acordo com o tipo de sutura empregada: Grupo A - sutura manual com fio polipropileno 5-0; Grupo B - sutura mecânica com grampeador mecânico modelo TL-30. Cada grupo foi subdividido em 3 subgrupos de 3 animais, sendo estabelecido estudo temporal aos 7, 15 e 36 dias de pós-operatório, onde foi realizada avaliação anatomopatológica da cicatrização das suturas manual e mecânica. Na avaliação histopatológica foram avaliados, qualitativamente e semi-quantitativamente, intensidade da inflamação, fibrose, vasos neoformados e presença ou não de tecido de granulação, granuloma tipo corpo estranho e necrose. Os resultados encontrados foram analisados estatisticamente. Com relação à análise histopatológica, ocorreu a formação de granuloma tipo corpo estranho no coto brônquico esquerdo em 88,9% dos cães submetidos à sutura manual e em nenhum dos cães submetidos à sutura mecânica. Houve, ainda, diferença estatística significativa nos cães dos Grupos A e B em relação à intensidade da inflamação, sendo de maior intensidade nos cães submetidos à sutura manual. Concluiu-se que os 2 tipos de sutura promoveram cicatrização adequada do coto brônquico principal esquerdo, embora tenha ocorrido maior intensidade de inflamação e maior ocorrência de granuloma tipo corpo estranho nos cães submetidos à sutura manual.

Neurosciences research have contribution to elucidate the history of the animal on the earth, nevertheless many sylvan animals, in South America yet won't be studied. The Sloth's, in risk of extinction, because your high specificity and alimentary specialization can give us information about evolutive animal history. We use dead animals by natural process, freeze, fixed and injected by natural latex in Matinha´s reserve, Itabuna/Ilhéus, ceded for projects in association between the reserve, São Paulo University and other institutions. The dissections were realized by magnified glass succors, documented, descript and analyzed by the references. We don't have many references about the theme thus were utilized descriptions and systematizations in humans and other mammals as the base for discussions. In the dura-mater was found a similar structure in other mammals, with falx´s brain and cerebelar tent , over there venous sinus. This sinus show interests alterations in your formations, all adequate to your anatomic characteristics of your brain, among these a orbiculo-frontal sinus around the base of olfactory bulbs, a sinus para-sagital cerebelar in a place of a cerebelar vein like description for many authors, and a connection between transverse sinus and inter-transverse sinus. Finally a peculiarity in this system is a transposition of the sigmoid sinus in a caudo-rostral orientation draining the blood support of the rostral region of the brain, specially the olfactory set. | Pesquisas em neurociências têm contribuído para elucidar a história dos animais na terra, contudo diversos animais silvestres da América do sul ainda não foram estudados. O bicho preguiça, ameaçado de extinção, por sua alta especificidade e especialização alimentar pode nos fornecer informações sobre a história evolutiva animal. Utilizamos animais mortos naturalmente, sendo congelados, fixados e injetados com látex natural na reserva da Matinha, Itabuna/Ilhéus, cedidos para projetos em parceria entre a reserva, Universidade de São Paulo e outras instituições. As dissecações foram realizadas com auxílio de lupas e, após documentação, descritas e analisadas pelo referencial a disposição. Não é abundante a literatura sobre o tema e, por isso, utilizamos descrições e sistematizações em humanos e outros mamíferos como base para as discussões. Na dura-máter, foi encontrada uma estrutura semelhante à descrita em mamíferos, com foice do cérebro e tenda do cerebelo, além de seios venosos. Tais seios apresentaram alterações interessantes em sua formação, todas adequadas às características anatômicas de seu cérebro, entre elas um seio orbículo frontal em torno da base dos bulbos olfatórios, um seio para-sagital cerebelar no lugar de uma veia cerebelar como descrito por diversos autores e uma conexão entre os seios transversos por meio de um seio inter-transverso. Finalmente, uma peculiaridade neste sistema é o deslocamento do seio sigmóide no sentido caudo-rostral, drenando o aporte sangüíneo da porção rostral do encéfalo, em especial do aparato olfatório.

Comparou-se a qualidade da analgesia pós-operatória após administração preemptiva de tramadol (2 mg/kg/grupo 1) e flunixin meglumine (1,1 mg/kg/grupo 2) em 30 cães submetidos a procedimentos cirúrgicos ortopédicos. Os animais tratados com tramadol apresentaram maior grau de analgesia comparado ao grupo do flunixim meglumine. A qualidade do retorno anestésico dos animais tratados com tramadol foi superior, livre de excitação e desconforto e com grau de sedação superior ao grupo do flunixin meglumine. Não foram observadas alterações cardiovasculares e respiratórias durante a anestesia. Podemos concluir que o tramadol pode ser utilizado como analgésico preemptivo em cães submetidos a procedimentos cirúrgicos ortopédicos, já que o retorno anestésico apresentou adequada analgesia, livre de desconforto e excitação. | The degree of analgesia after the preemptive administration of tramadol or flunixin meglumine was evaluated in thirty dogs submitted to orthopedic surgical procedures. Dogs received tramadol (2mg/kg) or flunixin meglumine (1.1mg/kg). Cardiovascular and respiratory depression were not observed during anesthesia. Animals treated with tramadol showed a higher score of analgesia. The quality of recovery of animals treated with tramadol was much better as it was free from excitation and discomfort, and presented a higher degree of sedation. We could conclude that tramadol can be applied successfully in preemptive analgesia, since recovery from anesthesia is accompanied by adequate analgesia and is free from excitation and discomfort.

Corynebacterium aquaticum grew in two samples and were characterized by biochemical analisis. In this paper we reported the agent participation in udder colonization and the possibility of buffaloes infections mastitis. | Estudou-se 548 quartos mamários de búfalas, realizando-se exame clínico, CMT para detecção de mastite e coleta de amostras para isolamento bacteriano. Houve crescimento em duas amostras de Corynebacterium aquaticum caracterizadas bioquimicamente. Relata-se a participação do agente como colonizador do úbere e possível causador de mastites em bubalinos.

The aim of this study was to describe the technique and results of high resolution electrocardiography (ECGAR) in clinically healthy dogs. During this research, 32 adult crossed-breed, dogs from both sexes were used, which were divided in four groups accordingly to their mean body weight. The animals were submitted to high resolution electrocardiography in time domain. It was verified that the duration of QRS complex was smaller in the group of dogs with lower body weight when compared to the group of animals weighing over 21 kilograms. Moreover, the duration of the low amplitude signals of the last 40 ms of the QRS complex (LAS 40) did not show significant differences among groups. Also no significant difference was seen among groups in relation to the mean squared root of the squared voltage of the last 40 ms of the QRS complex (RMS 40). These results, once tabled, could contribute for standardization of the reference values for canine ECGAR. Furthermore, these values could serve as foundation for other researches with dogs in risk of development of sustained ventricular arrhythmias and sudden death, through the detection of the so called late potentials. | No presente estudo, descreve-se a técnica e os resultados obtidos da eletrocardiografia de alta resolução (ECGAR) em cães clinicamente normais. Durante a pesquisa, foram utilizados 32 cães, adultos, sem raça definida, machos e fêmeas, divididos em quatro grupos de acordo com o peso corporal médio, sendo submetidos ao estudo da ECGAR no domínio do tempo. Quanto aos parâmetros eletrocardiográficos analisados, foi constatado que a duração do complexo QRS foi menor no grupo de cães com peso corporal inferior a 10 quilogramas. Por sua vez, a duração dos sinais de baixa amplitude dos últimos 40 ms do complexo QRS (LAS 40) não alterou significativamente entre os grupos. O mesmo ocorreu em relação à raiz quadrada média da voltagem ao quadrado dos últimos 40 ms do complexo QRS (RMS 40), permanecendo sem alteração significativa. Os resultados encontrados uma vez tabulados poderão contribuir na padronização dos valores para a espécie canina e servirão de subsídio para outras pesquisas com cães propensos ao desenvolvimento de arritmias ventriculares sustentadas e morte súbita, por meio da detecção dos chamados potenciais tardios.

Os ramos da artéria testicular em cobaio são uma artéria capsular principal e alguns ramos capsulares com disposições oblíqua-longitudinal e transversa-longitudinal, mostrando um padrão distributivo variável em ambas as superfícies dos testículos. Os ramos subcapsulares se originam da própria artéria testicular ou da artéria capsular, sendo que estes ramos subcapsulares emitem vários outros ramos com disposição estratigrafica variável. Assim, se notam vasos sanguíneos extraalbugínicos colocados entre o estrato mesotelial e o próprio estrato denso da albugínea. Os vasos intra-albugínicos são caracterizados como seguimentos arteriasis e venosos dispostos na intimidade da albugínea testicular. Os vasos subcapsulares e intratesticulares sequentes aos anteriores aparecem na intimidade do testículo como pequenas artérias e veias, arteríolas e vênulas e capilares das redes capilares. Os vasos intratesticulares mostram um padrão complexo de disposição, sendo vistos, especialmente os capilares, com orientação espacial paralela ou perpendicular em relação aos túbulos seminíferos os quais circundam. | The branches of the testicular artery in guinea pig were a main capsular artery and some capsular branches with oblique-longitudinal and transverse-longitudinal dispositions, and variable patterns at the lateral and medial surfaces of the testes. Subcapsular branches arose through the proper testicular artery or by the capsular artery and the subcapsular branches emitted: the extralbuginic blood vessels placed between the mesothelium layer and the proper dense albuginea layer of the testis capsule, the intralbuginic vascular vessels characterised by presence of arterial and venous segments inside the myostromal structure of the testis albuginea and the subcapsular and intratesticular sequential vessels which appeared as small arteries and veins, arterioles and venules and capillaries of the capillary trees. The last vessels, mainly the arterioles, venules and capillaries of the testis showed a complex pattern of disposition, in which was viewed parallel and perpendicular vessels concerning to the spatial orientation of the seminiferous tubules.

O efeito das altas temperaturas sobre os animais tem sido extensivamente estudado a fim de se obter a situação ideal de alojamento, com melhor desempenho, tanto produtivo como reprodutivo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do resfriamento adiabático associado à ventilação controlada (SRAVC), utilizado no alojamento de matrizes suínas gestantes, no seu desempenho reprodutivo. Foram comparados dois tipos de sistemas SRVC e ventilação natural (Natural). Um total de 144 matrizes Dalland® foram alojadas em duas diferentes estações, verão e inverno, resultando em 4 tratamentos (33 matrizes cada): sistema controlado com ventilação forçada e nebulização durante o verão (SRAVC/Verão); sistema de ventilação natural durante o verão (Natural/Verão); sistema controlado com ventilação forçada e nebulização durante o inverno (SRAVC/Inverno) e sistema de ventilação natural durante o inverno (Natural/Inverno). O sistema era regulado a partir de um termostato onde os ventiladores eram acionados a uma temperatura ambiente de 25ºC e a nebulização a 27ºC, permanecendo ligada por cinco minutos e desligada durante 20 minutos. Foram avaliados os seguintes parâmetros produtivos: número de leitões nascidos vivos (NV), número de mumificados (MF), número de natimortos (NM), peso médio ao nascer (PN), número de leitões desmamados (NLD), peso médio ao desmame (PD) e ganho de peso dos leitões (GP). O sistema SRAVC proporcionou a redução do número de leitões mumificados no plantel, enquanto a estação do ano contribuiu para melhorar no peso ao desmame dos leitões. | The effect of high environmental temperature on animals has been extensively studied in order to search the ideal housing and better performance both productive and reproductive. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of the evaporative cooling system associated to controlled ventilation (SRAVC) used in gestating sow's housing on their reproductive parameters response. Two systems were evaluated: SRAVC and natural ventilation (Natural). A total of 144 Dalland® sows were used during two seasons, summer and winter, resulting in 4 treatments (33 sows each) such as: the use of evaporative cooling associated to controlled ventilation during summer (SRAVC/summer), natural ventilation during summer (Natural/summer), evaporative cooling associated to controlled ventilation during winter (SRAVCwinter) and natural ventilation during winter (Natural/winter). The SRAVC system control was adjusted by thermostat, and the ventilation started when the ambient temperature reached 25ºC, and fogging at 27ºC, keeping it on for five minutes and then turning it off for the next twenty minutes. The following reproductive parameters were evaluated: number of piglets born alive (NV); mortality of embryo (MF), mortality at birth (NM), weight at birth (PN), number weaned piglet (NLD), weaned piglet's weight (PD), and piglet's weight gain (GP). The forced ventilation system decreased the embryo mortality, but the only the season influenced the final weight of weaned piglets.

Três grupos de camundongos foram imunizados com os seguintes antígenos de Toxocara vitulorum : fluido perientérico (Pe) do parasita adulto, antígenos extrato solúvel bruto (Ex) e excretor/secretor (ES) de larvas infectantes. Estes três grupos foram comparados com o grupo controle, não imunizado. Todos os grupos foram desafiados uma semana após a imunização com ovos infectantes deste parasita e necropsiados em três períodos diferentes após o desafio: sete horas, quatro dias e 30 dias pós-infecção. Realizou-se a contagem de ovos e de larvas nas fezes dos camundongos e o grupo imunizado com antígeno do fluído perientérico (Pe) foi o que eliminou a maior quantidade de larvas. Após a necropsia, realizou-se a retirada do intestino delgado, intestino grosso, fígado, pulmão, coração, cérebro e músculos (diafragma, língua e quadríceps femoral). Estes tecidos sofrearam digestão péptica e as larvas foram identificadas e contadas em cada um deles. O maior número de larvas foi encontrado no intestino grosso no período de sete horas após o desafio, em todos os grupos examinados, porém, este número foi significativamente inferior nos grupos imunizados. Com quatro dias após o desafio, as larvas concentravam-se, preferencialmente, no fígado e pulmões, e os grupos imunizados apresentaram uma quantidade muito menor de larvas, significativo para o fígado e pulmão em relação ao grupo controle. No período de 30 dias após o desafio, as larvas recuperadas no cérebro e no músculo, mesmo que em pequena quantidade, demonstraram capacidade de alcançar estes tecidos. A efetividade desta imunização baseou-se na redução do número de larvas de T. vitulorum no fígado no quarto dia pós-infecção em relação ao controle, que foi de 86%, 79% e 58% para o antígeno Ex, Pe e ES, respectivamente. O camundongo foi considerado um modelo apropriado para estudar a relação parasita-hospedeiro das infecções por T. vitulorum. | Three groups of mice were immunized agaisnt three different Toxocara vitulorum antigens: perienteric fluid (Pe) of adults and excretory/secretory (ES) and soluble extracts (Ex) of infective larvae. A group of non-immunized animals was considered the control group. All groups were challenged one week after the third immunization with T. vitulorum infective eggs and necropsied at three different periods after the challenge: seven hours, four and 30 days. Eggs and larvae counts in the feces of mice were accomplished and revealed that Pe immunized group eliminated the highest number of larvae. Small and large intestines, liver, lungs, heart, brain and muscle (diaphragm, tongue e quadriceps femoris) were removed, digested by peptical digestion and larvae were identified and counted. The higher number of larvae was found in the large intestine seven hours after the challenge in all examined groups; however, this number was significantly lower in animals of the immunized groups. On day four after the challenge, larvae were more often found in the liver and lungs, and the immunized groups had lower numbers of larvae than in the control groups. On day 30 after the challenge low numbers of larvae were recovered in the brain and muscle. The effective immunization against larval migration based on the rate of reduction of the larvae present in the liver on day four after infection was of 82%, 79% and 58% for Ex, Pe and ES antigen, respectively.

In NK cell-depleted mice, the NK cytotoxic activity of spleen cells decreased at 7 days after infection and more parasites were found in the lesion. The NK cell populations were analyzed by immunohistochemistry in spleen cryosections. An increase of NK1.1⁺ expression and a decrease of NK5E6⁺ antigen expression was observed in NK cell-depleted mice compared to non-depleted mice. When the presence of IFN-g, IL-12 and IL-4 at the site of parasite inoculation was analyzed by immunohistochemistry, a large amount of cytokines was detected in K cell-depleted mice at 24 hours and 7 days after infection. In non-depleted mice, there was a small amount of IL-12 at 24 hours and of IL-4 at 7 days after infection. These data cells suggest that K cell depletion by 90Srresults in increased parasitism in the lesion. The increase of NK1.1⁺ expression, which mainly produces IL-4, may take part in the progression of the infection.</span></p> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> BALB/ c depletados e não depletados em células Natural IVller (NK) foram infectados subcutaneamente com 10⁷ promastigotas de Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis em fase estacionária de crescimento e amostras foram colhidas às 24 horas e 7 dias de infecção. Nos camundongos depletados em células NK, a atividade citotóxica NK de células esplênicas estava diminuída aos 7 dias de infecção e mais parasitos foram encontrados na lesão. Populações de células NK foram analisadas por imuno-histoquimica em cortes congelados de baço. Foi observado aumento na expressão de células NK1.1⁺e diminuição na expressão do antígeno NK5E6⁺ nos animais depletados em células NK comparados aos camundongos não depletados. A presença de IFN-g, IL-12 e IL-4, analisada por imunohistoquimica no sítio de inoculação dos parasitos, mostrou que maior quantidade de citocinas foram detectadas nos camundongos depletados em células NK às 24 horas e 7 dias depois da infecção. Nos camundongos não depletados, havia pequenas quantidades de IL-12 às 24 horas e de IL-4 aos 7 dias de infecção. Estes dados sugerem que a depleção de células NK por ⁹⁰Sr resulta em aumento de parasitismo na lesão. O aumento na expressão de células NK1.1⁺, as quais produzem principalmente IL-4, pode representar um dos mecanismos que colaborariam para a progressão da infecção.</p> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> It was analysed the uterine tube structure in Agouti. We have used three adult females, caming from Wild Animals Preservation and Study Nucleous of "Universidade Federal do Piauí". Soon after anaesthesia and euthanasia we got collected uterine tube fragments from cranial, medial and caudal regions. The cuts of 3 to 5m were stained with HE, and analysed and photographed with a light microscope. We could observed that the uterine tubes have three distincts stratums: mucous membrane, muscular and serous with histologicals differences that characterize the infundibulum, ampulla and isthmus regions. The uterine tube light is irregular, on cranial and medium portions. It is bigger and irregular than caudal portion. The mucous membrane is coat with simple columnar epithelium with ciliar and nonciliar cells. The own lamina, formed of slack conjunctive tissue, without glands, on ampulla region, become small and we can observe many cells. On isthmus mucous we observe ephithelial tissue with low cells. The muscular, constituted of smooth fibres, that is observed like a circular and longitudinal stratum, and the serous stratum full of vessels. Histologically, the uterine tube in Agouti is similar to the others domestic and wild animals. | Foi analisada a estrutura da tuba uterina de cutias utilizando-se três fêmeas adultas, oriundas do Núcleo de Estudos e Preservação de Animais Silvestres da Universidade Federal do Piauí. Após anestesia, foi realizada a eutanásia dos animais, em seguida, obtidos fragmentos da tuba uterina correspondentes às regiões cranial, média e caudal. Cortes de 3 a 5m de espessura foram corados pela Hematoxilina/Eosina e analisados e fotografados ao microscópio de luz. Foi evidenciado que, a parede da tuba uterina da cutia apresenta três camadas histologicamente distintas: mucosa, muscular e serosa, caracterizando as regiões infundíbulo, ampola e istmo. A mucosa, revestida por tecido epitelial simples colunar apresentando células ciliadas e não ciliadas, e, com grande quantidade de pregas em diferentes níveis. No epitélio de revestimento da mucosa do istmo, foram observadas áreas com células variando de cúbicas a pavimentosas. A luz do órgão, nas porções cranial e média, mostra-se bem maior e mais irregular que na porção caudal. A lâmina própria, constituída de tecido conjuntivo frouxo, desprovida de glândulas, e na região da ampola, torna-se mais estreita e bastante celularizada. A camada muscular, formada por fibras musculares lisas dispostas em uma subcamada circular interna e outra longitudinal externa. A serosa mostra-se bastante vascularizada. As tubas uterinas da cutia guardam muita semelhança com as dos demais mamíferos quanto aos aspectos microscópicos.
