Kim, H.S. | Choi, C.O. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine) | Lyoo, Y.S. | An, S.H. (Rural Development Administration, Anyang (Korea R.). Veterinary Research Institute)
Twenty-eight porcine rotavirus were isolated from piglets with diarrhoea in Chonnam Province. According to the age, 41 to 60 day old pigs showed the highest isolation frequency among the post weaning pigs. The characteristics of the field isolates were determined by electronmicroscopy(EM), immunofluorescent assay(FA), and electrophoretic migration patterns of the genome profiles. Some of the isolates showed remarkable haemagglutination activity against rabbit and dog erythrocytes, ranging from 4 to 2848, respectively. At least 3 serotypes of porcine rotavirus were recognized by serum neutralization test using serotype specific rotavirus hyperimmune sera

1988
Park, H.S. | Suh, D.S. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
Blood coagulation time, bleeding time, clot retraction ability, thrombocyte counts and hematological values under electroacupuncture anesthesia and medicament anesthesia, using 10 mongrel dogs were compared. Blood coagulation time under electroacpuncture anesthesia was shorther than that under medicament anesthesia (p0.001). Bleeding time under electroacupunture anesthesia was shorter than that under medicament anesthesia (p0.01). Clot retraction ability under electroacupuncture anesthesia was better than that under medicament anesthesia (p0.01). Thrombocyte counts under electroacupuncture anesthesia was more increased than that under medicament anesthesia (p0.05). Erythrocyte counts, hematocrit values, hemoglobin contents and leukocytes counts were decreased (p0.01) under medicament anesthesia in comparison with control group, but there was no significant difference under electroacupuncture anesthesia

1988
Chae, T.C. | Choi, W.P. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
This paper deals with the 0 groups of citrate utilizing variants of Escherichia coli (Cit+ E. Coli) isolated from cattle, the production of colicin, hemolysin, K99 antigen, heat stable enterotoxin, and the isolation of plasmid DNA. Among 42 Cit + E. Coli, 12 strains were 020, 9 strains 08, 5 strains 045, 3 strains 0115, 1 strain 064, 1 strain 0139 and remaining strains (11) were untypable. Thirty-nine(81.3%)out of 48 Cit + E. Coli produced colicin and 13(27.0%) produced hemolysin. Of 12 cit + E. coli bearing K99 antigen, 6(50.0%) produced heat stable enterotoxin. In gel electrophoresis for the isolation of plasmid DNA, the number of plasmids varied from 1 to 7 in 10 Cit+ E. Coli. Its molecular weight ranged from 2 to 50 Mdalton, and 50 Mdalton plasmid commonly existed in all strains

Shin, D.H. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine) | Choi, S.H. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Coll. of Pharmacy)
To examine the selectivity of verapamil, used in the cardiovascular diseases, on alpha-1 and alpha-2 adrenoceptor-induced pressor responses, effects of verapamil on alpha-adrenoceptor agonist-induced pressor responses were investigated in urethane-anesthetized rabbits, spinal rabbits, rats and pithed rats. To evaluate the effects of verapamil on each pressor response induced by norepinephrine, phenylephrine and clonidine, these agonists were previously injected into an ear vein, and the same procedures were performed 1-2 min after treatment with intravenous verapamil. Intravenous verapamil produced dose-dependent depressor response in rabbits and rats. Pressor responses to intravenous norepinephrine (10 micro g/kg) and phenylphrine (30 micro g/kg) were inhibited by pretreatment with intravenous verapamil in rabbits and no difference was noted between the degree of both inhibitions of the pressor response by verapamil. Pressor responses to intravenous norepinephrine (3 micro g/kg), phenylephrine (20 micro/kg) and clonidine (300 micro g/kg) were inhibited by pretreatment with intravenous verapamil in spinal rabbits. No difference was noted between the inhibition of norepinephrine-induced pressor response and that of phenylephrine-induced pressor response by verapamil. The inhibition of clonidine-induced pressor response by verapamil was more prominent than that of norepinephrine- or phenylephrine-induced pressor response. Pressor responses to intravenous norepinephrine (3 micro g/kg) and phenylephrine (10 micro g/kg) were inhibited by pretreatment with intravenous verapamil in rats and no difference was noted between the degree of both inhibitions of the pressor response by verapamil

Yeo, S.G. | Kim, D.K. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Choi, W.P. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
Attempts were made to determine the clinical features and the causative organism of ringworm occurring in a cat in Chinju city, Korea. Alopecia and greyish white crusty lesions were obseved around the eye, nose and posterior limb while irregular, partial loss of hairs and white scales were in the ear, neck and abdomen lesions. Direct microscopic and cultural examination were carried out for the hairs and crusts taken from the skin lesions, and the causative organism was identified as M. canis

To examine the selectivity of diltiazem, used in the cardiovascular diseases, on alpha-1 and alpha-2 adrenoceptor-induced pressor responses, effect of diltiazem on alpha-adrenoceptor agonist-induced pressor responses were investigated in urethane-anesthetized rabbits and spinal rabbits. Intravenous diltiazem(10,30,100,300,1000 micro g/kg) produced dose-dependent depressor response in rabbits. Pressor responses to intravenous norepinephrine(10 micro g/kg) and phenylephrine (30 micro g/kg) were inhibited by pretreatment with intravenous diltiazem in rabbits and no difference was noted between the degree of both inhibitions of the pressor response by diltiazem. Pressor responses to intravenous norepinephrine (3 micro g/kg), phenylephrine (20 micro g/kg) and clonidine (300 micro g/kg) were inhibited by pretreatment with intravenous diltiazem in spinal rabbits. No difference was noted between the inhibition of norepinephrine-induced pressor response and that of phenylephrine-induced pressor response by diltiazem. The inhibition of clonidine-induced pressor response by diltiazem was slightly more prominent than that of norepinephrine-or phenylephrine-induced pressor response. These results suggest that diltiazem significantly inhibits both pressor responses mediated by alpha-1 and alpha-2 adrenoceptors

1988
Shin, T.K. (Chungnam National Univ., Taejon (Korea R.). Coll. of Medicine) | Lee, C.S. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
In the course of studying porcine enterovirus infection in piglets, the vascular endothelial cells in the CNS of colostrum-deprived piglets with polioence-phalomyelitis were investigated by electron microscope. The experimental piglets were orally infected with the porcine enterovirus serogroup 3 isolated in Korea and necropsied at 7 days postinoculation. Crystalline arrays of viral particles were found in the vascular endothelial cells of the spinal cord and cerebellum. Aggregates of immature viral particles were occasionally observed in the vascular endothelial cells in the meninges. The rough ER was deprived of ribosomes, irregularly dilated and associated with viral crystals. There were abundant cytoplasmic filaments, dilatation of perivascular space, perivascular cuffing, and the partial disruptions of endothelial cell membrane and basal lamina

Kang, Y.B. | Jang, H. (Rural Development Administration, Anyang (Korea R.). Veterinary Research Institute)
For the laboratory diagnosis of Sarcocystis infections especially in domesticated food animals, several antificial digestion techniques were applied for the musculature specimens and several staining techniques wes applied for the bradyzoites of Sarcocystis species isolated. The digestion technique using trypsin (0.5%) and sodium chloride (0.85%) mixed solution was regarded as the most valuable for the detection of asexual stages of Sarcocystis in bovine musculature specimens. Optimal time for digestion was approximately one to four hours. The trypsin digestion technique with Giemsa's stain could be helpful for the detection of Sarcocystis proliferative forms and for the observation of the nucleus of the parasite. A systematic detection was also performed in an autopsy for a bovine carcass naturally infected with Sarcocystis species, and the asexual stages such as metrocytes and bradyzoites were observed in the specific organs, respectively

1988
Barnouin, Jacques | Paccard, P.
Nutritional risk factors for liver damage were surveyed in Black-Pied French dairy herds using serum glutamic dehydrogenase and gamma glutamyl transferase levels to monitor liver dysfunction. The 34 herds chosen were free of parasitic liver injuries. Feeding systems, nutritional blood parameters and production characteristics are analyzed. Two risk factors appeared to be involved in hepatic injury: feeding of fresh rape (Brassica napus) and high levels of serum urea (>/=6.64 mmol/L) associated with grass pasture or dietary nonprotein nitrogen with corn silage
