English. The evolution of sterols and phospholipids during the germination and early growth of maize was monitored. Lipid extract, lipid-P and sterol classes (free, esterified and glycosidic+acylated glycosidic forms) increased during the growth of the seedlings. As to sterols, sitosterol was the main sterol in all classes, followed by stigmasterol, campesterol and cholesterol in free and total sterols, as well as by campesterol and stigmasterol in glycosidic forms
