Tests carried out on chicks did not reveal any significant differences between neither cultivars nor harvest years. A negative, but nonsignificant coefficient of correlation between the beta-glucan concentration in the barley grain and weight gains of chick carcasses after 10 days of feeding in the first period of life of the birds has been found
