The article presents summary of studying the efficiency of dry carrot production when growing in the conditions of Ukraine’s Forest-Steppe subject to a variety. A complex assessment has been completed for fresh and dried products of 10 different varieties and hybrids of carrots on the content of basic biochemical, economic and biological indicators in order to highlight the best suited for drying. Varieties have been singled out, which roots display the highest yield, best marketability, accumulate the most of dry matter, sugars, etc. A close direct correlation between the weight of roots and their marketability has been established. An evaluation of the tested roots for complex organoleptic characteristics has been completed. It is proved that carrot drying is profitable. The yield and dry matter content in roots are key influence factors on profitability of dry carrot production. By the set of parameters under studying varieties most suitable for drying, Krasniy Velikan and Dlinnaia Krasnaia, have been selected. Profitability of their drying exceeds 40%. | Приведены результаты изучения эффективности производства сухой моркови, выращенной в условиях Лесостепи Украины, в зависимости от сорта. Проведена комплексная оценка свежей и сухой продукции моркови 10 различных сортов и гибридов по содержанию основных биохимических, хозяйственно-биологических показателей с целью подбора наиболее пригодных к сушке. Выделены сорта, корнеплоды которых характеризируются самой большой урожайностью, имеют самую высокую товарность, накапливают самое большое количество сухого вещества, сахаров и др. Установлена тесная прямая корреляционная взаимосвязь между массой корнеплодов и их товарностью. Проведена оценка испытуемых корнеплодов по комплексу органолептических показателей. Доказано, что сушка моркови прибыльная. На рентабельность производства сушеной продукции моркови больше всего влияет урожайность и содержаний сухого вещества у корнеплодах. По комплексу изучаемых показателей выделены наиболее пригодны для сушки сорта Красный великан и Длинная красная. Рентабельность их сушки становит выше 40%. | Наведено результати вивчення ефективності виробництва сухої продукції моркви, вирощеної в умовах Лісостепу України, залежно від сорту. Проведена комплексна оцінка свіжої та сушеної продукції моркви 10 різних сортів за вмістом основних біохімічних, господарськобіологічних показників з метою підбору найпридатніших для сушіння. Виділено сорти, коренеплоди яких характеризуються найвищою врожайністю, мають найвищу товарність, нагромаджують найбільше сухої речовини, цукрів тощо. Встановлено тісний прямий кореляційний зв’язок між масою коренеплодів та їх товарністю. Проведена оцінка дослідних коренеплодів за комплексом органолептичних показників. Доведено, що сушіння моркви є прибутковим. На рентабельність виробництва сушеної продукції моркви найбільше впливає врожайність та вміст сухої речовини у коренеплодах. За комплексом досліджуваних показників виділені найпридатніші для сушіння сорти Красний велікан та Длінная красная. Рентабельність їх сушіння становить понад 40%.

Purpose. To study effects of low temperatures on Lavandula angustifolia plants and their response depending on their age and variety as well as identify critical temperature values for such structure elements of plants as bark, cambium, wood, pith.Methods. Field investigation, spectrometric analysis, statistical evaluation.Results. Topicality of investigation of Lavandula angustifolia to be grown in the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine was highlighted. Low temperature effects on structural elements of shoots for 8 varieties of domestic and foreign selection were analyzed. One-year shoots have suffered the most from low temperatures – 4.5 points on a six-point scale, two- and three-year shoots were damaged in a lesser degree – from 0.8 to 2 points. Plants of ‘Feuervogel’ and ‘Maestro’ varieties with total damage coefficient of 11.3% and 10.6% accordingly were the most resistant to low temperatures. These varieties can be recommended to producers for further introduction to the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine.Conclusions. Tissues of a lavender one-year shoot were most damaged by low temperatures regardless of a variety, but this organ is ephemeral and can be removed without causing damage to a plant. Two- and three-year shoots, which provide plant recovery, were significantly less damaged. None of the plants from 8 studied lavender varieties was lost under the influence of low temperatures, though some of them were damaged significantly. Such varieties as ‘Feuervogel’, ‘König Humbert’, ‘Veseli notky’ (pith damage is on the level of 1–2 points), ‘Maestro’ (0.8–2.5 points) were the most resistant to low temperature exposure which allows to conclude about successful lavender cultivation under conditions of the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. | Цель. Изучить влияние низких температур на растения лаванды узколистой и их реакцию в зависимости от возраста и сорта. Определить критические показатели температуры для структурных элементов ее растений: коры, камбия, древесины, сердцевины.Методы. Полевой, спектрометрический, статистический.Результаты. Освещена актуальность исследований лаванды узколистой (Lavandula angustifolia), выращиваемой в условиях Лесостепи Украины. Проанализировано влияние низких температур на структурные элементы побегов 8 сортов отечественной и зарубежной селекции. Больше всего повреждались низкими температурами однолетние побеги – 4,5 балла по шестибалльной шкале, меньше – двух- и трехлетние – от 0,8 до 2 баллов. Самыми устойчивыми к низким температурам оказались растения сортов ‘Feuervogel’, которые суммарно по коэффициенту повреждения достигали 11,3%, и ‘Маэстро’ – 10,6%. Эти сорта можно рекомендовать производителям для интродукции в условиях Лесостепи Украины.Выводы. Ткани однолетнего побега лаванды больше всего повреждались низкими температурами независимо от сорта, однако это – эфемерный орган, который можно удалить без ущерба для выживания растений. Двух- и трехлетние побеги, обеспечивающие восстановление растения, имели значительно меньшие повреждения. Из 8 сортов лаванды, которые были в опыте, ни одно растение не погибло под влиянием низких температур, хотя в некоторых из них коэффициент повреждения был весьма значительным. Самыми устойчивыми сортами при воздействии на них низких температур оказались ‘Feuervogel’, ‘König Humbert’, ‘Веселые нотки’ (повреждение сердцевины – 1–2 балла), ‘Маэстро’ (повреждение сердцевины – 0,8–2,5 балла), что позволяет сделать вывод об успешности выращивания лаванды в условиях Лесостепи Украины. | Мета. Вивчити вплив низьких температур на рослини лаванди вузьколистої та їхню реакцію залежно від віку й сорту, а також визначити критичні значення температури для структурних елементів її рослин: кори, камбію, деревини, серцевини.Методи. Польовий, спектрометричний, статистичний.Результати. Висвітлено актуальність досліджень лаванди вузьколистої (Lavandula angustifolia), яку вирощують в умовах Лісостепу України. Проаналізовано вплив низьких температур на структурні елементи пагонів 8 сортів вітчизняної та іноземної селекції. Найбільше пошкоджень від низьких температур зазнали однорічні пагони – 4,5 бала за шестибальною шкалою, найменше – дво- та трирічні – від 0,8 до 2 балів. Найстійкішими до низьких температур виявилися рослини сортів ‘Feuervogel’, що сумарно за коефіцієнтом пошкодження досягали 11,3%, та ‘Маестро’ – 10,6%. Ці сорти можна рекомендувати виробникам для інтродукції в умовах Лісостепу України.Висновки. Тканини однорічного пагону лаванди найбільшою мірою були пошкоджені низькими температурами незалежно від сорту, однак це – ефемерний орган, який можна видалити без шкоди для виживання рослин. Дво- та трирічні пагони, що забезпечують відновлення рослини, мали значно менші пошкодження. У 8 сортів лаванди, які були в досліді, жодна рослина не загинула від впливу низьких температур, хоч у деяких з них коефіцієнт пошкодження був досить значним. Найстійкішими сортами за дії на них низьких температур виявилися: ‘Feuervogel’, ‘König Humbert’, ‘Веселі нотки’ (пошкодження серцевини на рівні 1–2 бали), ‘Маестро’ (пошкодження серцевини – 0,8–2,5 бала), що дає змогу зробити висновок про успішність вирощування лаванди в умовах Лісостепу України.

The article unveils the seed potential of fenugreek species to provide routine supply of methi leaf in the conditions of Ukrainian Forest-Steppe. The fenugreek species have have a wide range of morphological and economical characteristics variability that affect their seed production. A high productivity of dry seeds is inherent to fenugreek species at early spring sowing (10.04), as for this date the yield of dry seeds of blue fenugreek amounted to 0.4 t per ha, that of fenugreek hay – 2.0 t / ha, with mass of 1000 seeds, respectively, 0.71 and 9.7 gr. To obtain a spicery called «mushroom grass» the use of fenugreek hay is considered as a promising direction (Greek hay, Shambhala, hay fenugreek) along with scheduling the sowing for early spring (4.10) and late spring (25.04–15.05) , which would enable the development of greatest herbage volume and higher yield of mature seed (0.9–2.0 t / ha). Another prospective line of development is to use blue fenugreek (fenugreek blue) as a green manure and nectar bearing crop, with the sowing scheduled for spring (4.10) and late spring (25.04–15.05).

In the article the authors present the results of the study biometric and qualitative characteristics of berries highbush blueberry varieties (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) in a specific soil and climatic conditions Forest-steppe of Ukraine (Kiev). Investigations were carried out on 11 varieties of American highbush blueberry. Phenological observations, biometric surveys, tasting score and biochemical analysis of the berries have been conducted during the growing season. By results of researches the group of early-ripening varieties includes Bluestar, Earliblue, Patriot, the middle-ripening – Jonne, Atlantis, Bluegold, Bluecrop, Chyk and late-ripening varieties – Amanda, Darrow, Toro. Duration of collecting period of ripe berries was lower (16 days) in varieties Bluestar, Earliblue, Jonne and Darrow. Berries were large sizes in the varieties of Darrow, Amanda, Jonne, in other varieties berries were medium size. By tasting score the berry of varieties Toro, Earliblue, Jonne and Darrow were the best. For biochemical parameters the better varieties were Amanda, Jonne and Earliblue.

The article presents the estimation of economic and biological characteristics of indeterminant tomato hyb rids (Raisa F1, Macarena F1, Emotion F1, Anabel F1, Mariachi F1) under conditions of winter hydroponic. The earliest emergence of fruits is established for Macarena F1 tomato hydrid. The total number of brushes, flo ers and w fruits formed on the plant during the vegetation period, is determined. The degree of fruit inception, yield per plant and average weight of the plant are measured. The monthly dynamics of hybrid tomato crops is presented. The largest harvest was collected through May to July. Marketable and non-marketable portions of the harvest and commercial quality of tomato fruits are determined. A close correlation between fruit weight and fruit yield is established. The Macarena F1 hybrid is distinguished as the most precocious and high-yielding variety.

In connection to the climate changing and draught frequency increasing in the spring-summer period the fractional composition of water (combined and uncombined water) in leaves of apple from May to August 2011, 2012 were studies. Combined and uncombined waters have different functionality for the life of plants. An uncombined water in leaves determines intensity of physiologic processes while the combined is responsible for plants resistance to unfavorable conditions. The fractional composition of water was studied in apple leaves of varieties bred by All-Russian Research Institute for Fruit Crop Breeding of RAAS, Bolotovskoye, Irmus, Orlik, Orlovim, Orlovskoye Polosatoye, Sinap Orlovskiy, Yubiliar in comparision to widespread varieties – Antonovka, Melba and Welsi. The study established that the varieties examined were well-adapted to drought in May, at the beginning of summer, as well as at the end of August and in September. At the beginning of July and in June higher indices of drought resistance were registered for Orlovim and Yubiliar, with the highest indices of combined water content. The completion of shoots growth and development of leaves system in all apple varieties was associated with increase of combined water amount in the leaves in August. In September, the number of combined water remained higher that suggested high adaptivity of the varieties being studied. The highest content of combined water in autumn was registered for Sinap Orlovskiy, Antonovka, Boltovskoie, Irmus.

In the article the authors show outcome of three years observation of blackcurrant varieties bred by Study Horticulture Department NULES of Ukraine for their suitabi lity to machine harvesting. Blackcurrant is the most common berry crop in Ukraine. When establishing intensive industrial plantations the varieties suitable for machine harvesting should be used. During 2006-2008 limited and unlimited traits of varieties bred by NULES of Ukraine suitability to combine harvesting were studied. All parameters of the examined varieties were compared against the requirements of the «ideal variety”. Simultaneous ripening of berries was observed in varieties Dochka Vorskly – 93,6%, Hovtva, Pamyaty Leonida Myhalevskoho – 92,6%. The pick off effort required to collect berries out of their clusters for all varieties but Yarynka was within acceptable range of 67...129 g. By effort applied for berries crush only Yarynka has failed to meet the necessary requirements. All the varie ties but Yarynka have been found suitable by growth habit of their bush (upright and semi-spread). Insufficient number fruits (6-7 pc.) in clusters for varieties Narodna and Yarynka was noted. Berries weight for all studied varieties ranged within 1.27-1.84 g, their drop-off was 3-8%, duration of harvesting period ranged from 8 to 10 days, so all the parameters of varieties suggested they were suitable for picking berries by berry harvesters. Varieties Dochka Vorskly, Universitetska, Hovtva, Pamyatna, Premiera, Narodna, Leleka and Pamyaty Leonida Myhalevskoho were selected as suitable for combine harvesting by the complex of positive parameters.

In the article the authors show outcome of three years observation of blackcurrant varieties bred by Study Horticulture Department NULES of Ukraine for their suitabi lity to machine harvesting. Blackcurrant is the most common berry crop in Ukraine. When establishing intensive industrial plantations the varieties suitable for machine harvesting should be used. During 2006-2008 limited and unlimited traits of varieties bred by NULES of Ukraine suitability to combine harvesting were studied. All parameters of the examined varieties were compared against the requirements of the «ideal variety”. The analysis of dynamics entering into the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for distribution in Ukraine, potato varieties during the period of 1991–2013.The magnificent differences in the total numbers of varieties, including foreign and national breeding are determined. The certain period of years with relatively equal number of varieties suitable for distribution in Ukraine is revealed. Simultaneously their number has increased 4.7 times for the entire period. The Scientific Institutions have been established, and their share of varieties is considered to be the biggest one in the Register, although the varieties of the most Breeding Institutions performed their competitiveness in recent years. The different ratio between foreign countries varieties and firms on number suitable for distribution in Ukraine has been set. It concerns their total number, having increased during the period of 1991 – 2013 12.3 times.

Callusogensis and morphogenesis of anthers of apple scab resistant varieties have been studied, with picloram applied. Auxin activity of this preparation has been revealed as in the darkness so in the light. The callusogenesis efficiency of studied varieties varied from 26,0 to 83,3% subject to the concentration of picloram in the darkness and from 11,3 to 74,9% in the conditions of low light. We consider 4 mg/l in the medium to be an optimal level of piloram concentration so far as this concentration provides the best callusogenesis indices of the tested apple varieties. The callus formed in the darkness in the medium with picloram is knobby and dense of white or milky color. The callus formed in the light is intensively green or greenishwhite, denser, with distinctly outlined meristem hearths. Morphological characters of calluses obtained in the medium of picloram are stable over years. The roots of Yubiley Moskvy variety have been induced under auxin:cytokinin ratio 1 : 2 (picloram : BAP, cytokinin). The roots of Svezhest cultivar were obtained under auxin : cytokinin ratio 3:9 (picloram : BAP, kinetin). Formation of four buds was recored in Orlovskoye polesie variety under auxin : cytokinin ratio 1:20.
