An investigation on 23 boars and barrows fed on diet containing 13.0, 17.1 or 19.9% of protein till receiving 96 kg of body weight was carried out. The better fattening performance and carcass quality in boars than in barrows was observed. There were positive correlations between the lean carcass content in boars and barrows and the crude protein level in the diets. Physical and chemical properties of pork did not differ between boars and barrows.
