The factors which affect colour development in apples are examined: Attention is given to the following: 1. Light exposure and its distribution into apple orchards, depending on tree form. 2. The number of leaves per fruit. 3. Humidity, precipitation and elevation. 4. Availability of N, K and P. 5. Soil management. 6. Rootstocks. 7. Irrigation and soil moisture. 8. Growth substances and fungicides. 9. Light receptor in the apple skin for anthocyanin synthesis.
