Cattle slaughtered according to Muslim requirements have the neck almost completely severed, making it difficult or impossible to apply electrodes in the accepted nostril-to-anus configuration. Experiments show that alternatives such as a rubbing bar contacting the neck, or a probe in the neck area, are effective.
