Reducing the use of chemical plant protection products is of outstanding importance in developing sustainable agriculture, preventive protection of consumers and protection of the natural balance. A major means to achieve this end is to use alternative non-chemical plant protection methods. This requires that a potential circle of users (farmers, extension agents) as well as the public (politicians, business people, scientists, and other interested people) are provided with comprehensive and scientifically sound information. The online database ALPS-BBA, which reflects the current state of knowledge in this field, provides this service. The database is permanently extended and updated and is an important contribution to reducing application of chemical plant protection products.
