Relationship between the palatability of pasture plants and their grazing by horses

The palatability of Lolium perenne, Festuca pratensis, Dactylis glomerata, Phleum pratense and Agrostis alba was evaluated on the intensity of pasturazing full-blood English mares. After finishing pasturazing the grass species were grazed up in 96.6; 84.8; 77.8; 80.3 and 74.5% respectively. The evaluation of plant palatability turned out diffucult because of different weed content. It was stated that Taraxacum officinale and Trifolium repens were eaten readily but Achillea millefolium unwillingly
