Rheology

Zumer, M. (Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Chemistry and Chemical Technology Fac.)
Rheology, defined as the science of deformation and flow of matter, is now recognised as an important field of science. Knowledge of the rheology is getting more and more essential for the scientists and engineers employed in many industries, scientific and health institutions. In the present work, classification of liquids is given with the emphasis on nonnewtonian liquid behaviour. Shear stress dependent liquid are presented including shear thickening and shear thickening behaviour as well yield stress liquids which are able to resist the stress for the certain yield value. Time dependent liquids are described with thixotropic and antithixotropic (reopectical) type of behaviour as well as viscoelastic liquids which both elastic and viscous properties.
