Some problems of development and structure of the biliary system in domestic animals
1997
Bruveris, Z. (Latvian University of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Faculty of Veterinary Medicine)
Morphogenesis of gallbladder and collecting bile ducts have been investigated in the histological series of embryos (see table 1) of cattle, pigs and horses in the early ontogenic stages. It has been stated that the embryos of horses have not sprout of gallbladder and not even in the early stages of the ontogenesis. The collecting bile ductus are differentiated from the hepatocytes.

1997
Antane, V. | Bulina, S. | Lusis, I. (Latvian University of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Dept. of Obstetric and Gynaecology)
The objective of the study was to find out whether it is useful to collect milk samples for somatic cell and lactose content additionally or to perform these analyses once a month at the same time with the usual milk records. Investigations were performed on 168 cows in the dairy herd "Ligotnes" of the research and teaching farm "Vecauce" in November and December 1996. Monthly samples were obtained as mixed afternoon milk and morning milk samples for usual milk records (fat %, protein %). Additionally afternoon samples were taken from 40 randomly selected cows weekly. Somatic cell count and lactose content in milk samples were measured by automatic analyzers "Somacount" and "Milkoscan" respectively. Conclusion: Monthly detected individual cow somatic cell count and lactose percent are objective data for udder health, as an important factor of cow economic value, estimation.

1997
Liepins, E. (Latvian University of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) | Burgele, I.
Investigations have been carried out in the period of last 10 years with the aim to determine the effect of antibiotics for the treatment of diseases caused by pathogenous microorganisms. 26653 pure cultures of twelve genera microorganisms have been used in the experiments. It has been stated that the effect of antibiotics is rather diverse. The most resistant to antibiotics are gramnegative pathogenous microorganisms. For the treatment of diseases caused by these microorganisms penicill in and eritromicin should be avoided. The most effective of the 8 antibiotics are levomicetin and neomicin. For an effective and stable treatment of mastitis neomicin, glutamicin and bytrin are recommended.

1997
Parcinskis, O. | Strupulis, A. | Zalkalne, R. (Latvian University of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Faculty of Veterinary Medicine)
M.Skudina had necropsied 924 horses that died of colic in the period of time from 1921 till 1951. That made 36.7% of all necropsied horses. Most often horses. Most often horses died of colic at 7-12 years of age in the summer months. There were diagnosed 21.69% of spasmodic (spastic) colic; 10.39% of paralytic colic; 66.74% of mechanic colic and 1.19% of thromboembolic colic.

1997
Upeniece, D. | Birgele, E. (Latvian University of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Faculty of Veterinary Medicine)
The aim of the research was to record the heart electrical activity of clinically healthy Cocker Spaniel breed dogs of different ages using the 12-lead system as well as to analyse the recorded ECG according to the animals' age and physiological condition. ECG were recorded and primarly processed by means of a special measurement program. Animals were divided into 3 groups af age: (1) till 12 months of age; (2) from 1-8 years old dogs; (3) older than 8 years. The recorded and analysed electrocardiagrams show that it is not possible to reveal characteristic electrophysiological deviation by the first three-lead ECG. The primary processing of ECG proves that V5 lead indices of ECG change little during the life-time of Cocker Spaniel breed dogs.
