In the present work the dietary habits of some ancient people refering to the consumption of pork are reviewed, and some brief data on the nutritive value of pork are given. Meanwhile the role of pork as vehicle of harmful organisms (Trichinella spiralis, Taenia solium, Salmonellae, Campylobacteria) is reviewed.
